Gaudreau has the same NHLE prior to going pro as Crosby. Wow.
So funny that (if you're a believer of NHLE) Gaudreau is actually out producing RNH. Can't wait till that ELC is inked!

I really hope doesn't overlook him bc he is so small. I can't wait until his deal is inked as well.

If/when Gaudreau signs, expect a 3-year deal at rookie max. Cap hit probably around $3.75 million like Corban Knight's deal.

Yea I think it might depend on how deep BC goes. Right now they are playing lights out hockey, and are the favourites (not clear favourites but currently ranked #1). If they were to get upset early, I could see him playing some games this year. If they go all the way to the end and win it all, it might be a bit much for him to sign get to Van dress and be on the ice the next day.
I would still really like to see him play with Abby though.. he has to prove he can play at the pro level and that is the place for him to start. Build up some confidence heading into the off season to push his training harder and pack on some pounds. No more mountain dew and skittles pre game!! Start eating that protein JG.

the AHL is pro too and the Heat are pretty much a lock for the post season.

Although keep in mind that $2,850,000.00 of that would be potential bonus money that won't count towards the cap floor and would accrue the season after next were he to qualify for any of it.

When I spoke with Gaudreau at dev camp, he implied that if BC won the NCAA title last season he would've turned pro.

I really hope he doesn`t play with the Flames this year then, I hope his team wins the NCAA championship and he takes a day off to celebrate. He has put a crap ton of work in with that team and it would be a great reward for him for it to all pay off.
In the mix of all of this we definitely are guilty of down playing the importance of a college championship to him and Arnold. Hard not to be greedy on our end though.

Found this on JG. Neat to see coverage like that in the Boston Globe
Quote:
He is as low key a presence off the ice as there is in college hockey.
He is soft-spoken, polite and is most pleased when his teammates receive all the accolades and time in the spotlight.
But as much as Johnny Gaudreau attempts to fly under the radar, when the Boston College junior dons a pair of skates, it is impossible not to be wowed.

Of course I'm hoping that he end this season with a national championship and the Hobey Baker, but I cannot wait to see what this kid can do at the next level. From all I've heard, he sounds like a great guy off the ice too.

Looking forward to seeing Johnny G join the Heat in their playoff run after winning the Hobey Baker and leading his team to a 2nd national championship in 3 years

Probably a better question for the General Heat thread, but since it is about Gaudreau I will ask here. Typically how does Ward look at these late season add ons? I would think he is a big proponent of earning ice and I don't know if I can see him opening a roster spot just because. Is it realistic that Gaudreau will get significant time on the Heat when he shows up after April 12th?

I think Ward said it was a big pain in the @$$, but it's part of being an AHL coach. He gave ice time to Kulak IIRC last season, so he tries to accomodate.

Typically, they don't get a lot of ice time, but Max Reinhart joined the Heat after his final WHL season, scored 2 goals in 1 regular season game, and played in 4 of Abbotsford's 8 playoff games that season.

It's playoffs - you do whatever you have to do to win. Meritocracy is for the regular season.
