I thought it was a pretty mediocre episode that was more suited in tone to mid-season than to a triumphant return from a break. If there was no break and that was the calm following the storm I'd have been on board. Only showing three characters after several months of wondering where everyone ended up after the chaos... I feel cheated a bit.

This got me as well. If this was the case then anyone should be able to walk in a group of them and not be seen but somehow that rope made her one of them??
In the first season where they covered themselves in the guts and blood to blend in, yeah that makes sense but walking with two on a leash, not so much.

Even with the maggots in the eye, these walkers suddenly seem tougher to kill. Time was a walker could be killed with a quick hatchet to the head or crushing its face in a doorway. And a single bullet to the head used to be more than enough. Not anymore, apparently.
And Carl has suddenly forgot how to shoot his gun. Back at the prison, he could pick off a walker at range with a quick headshot. Now, at point blank range, he's missing walkers altogether.

There were holes, in the story no doubt, but Carl might be suffering from fatigue and hunger, and fear. These 3 things will make even "hard" men "soft".............

Rick is badly injured and likely exhausted, which I assumed lead to him not being able to kill the zombie with one blow. A single bullet to the brain is enough still but in the case where more than one bullet was needed the zombie wasn't hit in the brain.
Carl didn't forget how to shoot his gun, shooting from cover is different than shooting from your back while fearing for your life. Carl was cocky and careless and this episode exposed his weaknesses and showed that he is still a child.
People complained that their accuracy wasn't believable. This episode they got what they wanted.

The show really needs a new villain. It's been a couple years now where it's only been zombies and The Governor, and before that it was just random street thugs. I dunno if they'd even be able to use a tribe of cannibals, but even if they hinted at their intentions that's the way to go. Now it looks like they are going to go Lost style and split up storylines into 2-3 parts, which I am still on the fence about. I also wonder if they are going to completely drop the women who were with the Governor, or are they going to be written into the show themselves? If not, what was the point of spending time to give them any characterization in the first place?

I enjoyed that tangent, also dropping them without further involvement speaks to the tenuous position all the characters are in, they are all just a miss-step away from dead.

An underwhelming episode, to be sure. 40 minutes of Carl strolling around like he's Robocop and repeatedly getting his ass handed to him was a tad lame, especially given the fact that the punk should've already learned his punk ass lesson long prior (the walker that he got too cocky with near the prison, for example).
The back story on Michonne was pretty good.
My prediction for next week is that we drop in on a recently deceased and reanimated Carl, who's succumb to organ failure following consumption of a six gallon barrel of chocolate pudding.

Despite being in the minority I didn't think it was that bad of an episode as it kind of mirrored the opening season background story on the Governor. A background story on Michonne was long overdue whether you liker her or not. Yeah Carl got annoying but that's heavy handedness by the writers as typically under dire, life and death circumstances Carl would be just happy to be alive and on the run with his father and the attitude would be more cultivated once they were in a place of comfort. That said his little venture on his own was okay and at least hopefully now we may be spared that annoying father/son conflict deeper into the season.

When luring zombies, it is important to stay as close to them as possible as well as not look in front of you.
These are KEY zombie luring techniques. Zombies are obviously too smart to follow you if you aren't looking at them.
What a terrible show.

I would have watched an entire Michonne origin episode, that was the best part of the episode.

Where the heck was he trying to lead them to, like a shed or something? I thought they'd shed some light on that, but nope. We all knew he was eventually going to trip or run into another zombie. and they wasted a couple minutes getting there.
I did like that he left a warning for the next people that he left a zombie trapped in the bedroom. Wish more people would do stuff like that.

He was luring them away from the house, I assume because he didn't want to attract more walkers to that house with the gun shots.

I didn't take it as a warning to others. More of something for himself, like an "I'm still surviving" kinda thing.

Oh just you wait,
I have a feeling in the next few episodes we will be introduced to something x10 better then the Governor.
