Default Chrome and Memory usage

I'm having a problem with chrome using a lot of memory when in use. Especially higher when watching youtube videos, where it reaches 220,000KB even with it being the only tab open. When I don't have youtube running and just searching through sites that don't use flash it still sits at 180,000KB with the GPU process taking 100,000KB. I've tried adjusting the plugins for shockwave but either one I use doesn't seem to have any effect. Anyone else experiencing this or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Switch to Firefox. Chrome is a memory hog partly because of how it tries to keep tabs separate so they can't crash each other and be secure from each other.

Its common for Chrome to be using more than 2GB on my computer.

The more extensions you have, the more each tab is going to eat up memory. Remove extensions you aren't using and see if that helps.

That sandboxing is the one reason I refuse to switch from Chrome.

I'm seeing less and less benefit from the sandboxing, the sandboxing doesn't seem to do jack when Flash crashes, it takes all the tabs with it anyway, and I've had 100 full browser crashes for every time a single tab has crashed only. And sandboxing for security isn't in my face like those things.

And Chrome has built up a whole host of bugginess for me, I can't play high def videos on Youtube unless they're full screen anymore, I can't view my saved passwords for the last dozen versions, etc etc. About the only reason I haven't switched back to Firefox is inertia at this point.

I don't like Chrome because it tries to piggy back on just about every download I do. Often it doesn't even give the choice of yes I want it or no I don't want it. Anything that obnoxious and intrusive can suck my ,,,,.

What I've had trouble with on Firefox is that some pictures on this site don't show up. Anybody have a solution?

For those of you who have a 64bit system, check out Nightly.

Chrome does use a lot of memory for me, but I haven't found it impacting my computer much either. Maybe the way I use my computer prevents it from being a problem? I like how much snappier Chrome is over Firefox.

My current load: 5 tabs, one running a youtube video.
