Seems like a bust to me. Doesn't have the size, mental toughness, speed, or skill to be an NHL player. Heck, he's proving he doesn't even have it in him to be an AHL player.
I'd be surprised if he played another game for the Flames at this point.

I don't know if this is what Ward was referring to, but I agree. I know he's a younger player, but Sven seems to mention fan support/comments that he's seen or heard in the media (social or otherwise) a lot more than most of his peers.

Just trying to stir things up a bit.
But as a mostly impartial observer, I'd be very concerned. 4 points in 15 games since being sent down is a disaster.

From the Troy Ward interview this morning, he said he's not too concerned. Working primarily on his defensive game at the moment, no surprise that the trade-off is a lack of offence. Expects it to even out soon.

The development of St. Louis was similar. The Flames need to be careful if Baertschi mans up and wants ice time to play his style of game. St. Louis credits Brian Sutter for making him defensively aware, but that did nothing for Calgary.
If this organization isn't willing to give him the ice time he needs to excel offensively, he will just sign elsewhere. He might bust as well, but history shows this isn't always the case with the Flames.
I just hope Burke doesn't give up on the kid.

...the theatrics of this Sven Vs. The Flames organization is getting a bit out of hand.
Heaven forbid an organization wants to take it's time and develop it's prospects. Sven has things to learn, he openly wants to learn them, and it's in the Flames organization best interest to teach him.
Give it time.

No. We must give him top line NHL minutes, and never criticize him for fear of effecting his confidence. It works so well for the Oilers right?

For some reason I have the urge to join a Sabres board and start calling Grigorenko a bust. As an impartial observer........

You could add Savard's name there as well, I'm all for teaching a kid to be aware in all aspects of the game but you still have to let them use their natural talents what got them drafted in the first place. Hartley and Burkes tough love on Sven was stupid IMO. THIS IS A REBUILDING TEAM.
Case in point.
In Pat Kanes rookie year he was a train wreck defensively,(coughing up the puck, not coming back..etc) coach Savard let him play as assistant coach Torchetti worked with his 3 zone play. by the end of the year he was far better defensively and lead his team in points. He's still not the greatest defensively but a big time player none the less.
I have a feeling Pat Kane wouldn't be one of the best NHL players if Hartley was his coach in his rookie year.

He got fired because he gave to fans something to look forward too?
Not sure why he was fired anyway considering he gave them their first winning record in 5 or 6 years.

A few key things:
- Patrick Kane was a 1st overall pick.
- St.Louis was never drafted, wasn't overly impressive in the NHL, and was bought out by new management who simply thought he was too small for the NHL period.
- Savard was a top line player on the Flames that they acquired from New York after they gave up on him after drafting him.
None of these are vaguely similar to Sven Baertschi, who is a mid-late 1st rounder drafted by the Flames, has played a whopping 1 and a half seasons in the Flames system, and has done nothing to show he's NHL ready.
Comparing him to Kane is like comparing Monahan to Crosby. It serves a completely hollow purpose.

Hartley mentioned this before and recently in the paper, but he said, "he didn't want one trick ponies". He was talking about team developing into a hard working team with higher expectations. If Baertschi comes back up it will be if he buys into the hard working team commitment. They know he has talent but they want the complete player. Sounds like they are working hard on him because they know he has the talent.

And they were wrong, he was called up after tearing up the AHL and Sutter wouldn't play him properly

After 23 nhl games he had 1 less point than Kane did in his first 23. BTW,13th overall isn't mid-late. not that where your takin should say how ready you are,again.. politics

Haha, I wouldn't disagree with you. He's a trainwreck too. I'll give him next season (to at least see how he can do in the AHL) before giving up entirely though.
