On Monday’s "The Lang and O’Leary Exchange," the co-host said it was “fantastic” that a recently released Oxfam report states the world’s 85 richest people hold the same amount of wealth as the poorest half of the planet’s population.
“This is a great thing because it inspires everybody, gets them motivation to look up to the one per cent and say, ‘I want to become one of those people, I’m going to fight hard to get up to the top,’” he said. “This is fantastic news and of course I’m going to applaud it. What can be wrong with
I think he takes his schtick too far, or perhaps it's not even a schtick. I bumped into him last year coming out of an elevator and he gave me a sneer with no apology. That moment made me think maybe he is genuinely an a-hole. Not to mention it was his fault, you've got to let the plebes out of the elevator before you can get in Mr. Wonderful.
He was in town a book signing about a year ago. I happened to be walking by the bookstore when he was signing books. He wouldn't even acknowledge his fans and looked angry the whole time.
He isn't a billionaire but he plays the part well for TV
I went to a talk he did here in town a few weeks ago. He was making Obama Hayes business comments all night. Very clearly very conservative and also believes the richest work hardest.
Interestingly he says he cuts every penny off from his children one they are done their education
I think the real news here is that 85 people on the planet have the same wealth as 3.5 billion people.

I ran into him in LA and approached him to chat. He was not warm and fuzzy and carried his TV personality into real life. It's quite comical. Hung out at the pool in his full suit.
The other dragons are very cool, with Mark Cuban and Barbara being my favourite.
yea its gotta be an act - kinda the business worlds Simon Cowell!
His economically conservative rants are sometimes really entertaining tho on the Lang and O'Leary show - i thought he would have a lot more love on CP!
Eh I have a certain kind of begrudging respect for those who are unapologetically honest a-holes. At least they are honest and open about who and what they are, better than being a two-faced type who puts forth a certain image in public and then acts differently when the cameras are off and it's decision time.
Anyone who would argue that having 85 people owning as many resources as 3.5 billion because it gives them something to aspire to is either a comedian or a psychopath. What a damning indictment of our collective conscience when remarks like that just seem to make us shrug.

Love Kevin O'Leary. He's an ass and makes no bones about it, but he worked hard for every penny, took risks and isn't driven by fear like 99% of people whose goal is to land a safe, secure job spending 40 years making someone else rich and waiting for their 2 weeks vacation every year.
O'Leary is an inspiration to self-employed people everywhere. He realizes money is power and is able to look at every business from that cold standpoint. Even on dragons den he never got sucked in by the feel-good stories, he only cares about whether a business is profitable.
Wouldn't want to work for him, wouldn't want to be an ####### like him, but have nothing but respect for his business acumen.

It makes us shrug because it's just some guy who's become famous for being a dick. It would be more damning if we actually cared what he thought.

Its because of pieces of #### like O' Leary and the psychopaths that look up to him that our great grandchildren are doomed.

I've spent a fair amount of time watching the Dragons, and O'Leary strikes me as the one that is looking for a sure thing, and willing to take the least risk.

If it's an act - he is a good actor. Ive read numerous stories of people seeing him out in real life (no cameras there) and he acts the same way. He may play it up for the cameras but deep down I really do think he is an a$$

Sigh... 'doomed'? What, is the earth going to spin off its axis? Is the sun about to explode?
Tell your great grandchildren to bust their ass, read lots of books, realize that nobody is going to hand them anything and that life is what they make of it.
Or you could tell them they're victims because Kevin O'Leary is a dick.
Both recipes probably get you the same cake, right?
