I have quite a few Christian family/friends on Facebook and I've never seen anything like this happen...and I certainly haven't seen a Christian circle jerk over their beliefs either. Maybe you know some extremists?

Are mullets a thing again? I saw a group of teenagers dressed in the typical wannabe-gangster fashion (baggy clothing, flat brim caps with the stickers still on, Timberland boots, etc), but one of them had a legitimate "business up front, party in the back" mullet that didn't seem to be worn in an ironic sort of way. If mullets actually become popular and cool I just won't know what to think anymore

I don't know what they are, but I see it too often. I grew up in a very Pentecostal household, so I have a large number of facebook friends, from my younger days, that are still heavily involved in the church.
In my experience, Pentecostalism is more extreme than other denominations. I recall being congregations basically being told, riding by riding, whom they should vote for in various elections- of course this was always determined by their stance on abortion and gay rights. This only scratches the surface of the extremism I experienced.

Rumors from the grapevine at work:
"HR is watching for who's around and who is going on vacation, to determine who's most valuable to the company."
Context: A large portion of the Canadian business is being sold off and layoffs will start happening in the second half of 2014.
I just can't stand that corporate culture in some companies of people being judged by how much of their alloted vacation time they use. It's horse****.

You gotta freeze them and eat them frozen. Makes them 1000x better.

I view those pictures as kind of like eating meat. If you are uncomfortable knowing how your meat gets from the farm through the kill floor to your plate, you probably shouldn't eat meat.
|
I'd say it's more like posting a photo of a diseased lung to Facebook. Not likely to change anyone's mind, and most likely to have your friends block you from their feed.
The equivalent of the diseased lung on a pack of cigarettes would be putting a picture of an aborted fetus on the front of your son's boxer shorts. They'd probably both be equally effective at stopping young girls from sticking what's inside in their mouths.

Meh, I don't see what the big deal is about being offered a free Bible. If someone offered me a copy of the Quran I wouldn't be offended. People send me reading material all the time that I have no interest in. No real harm in that.

I think the issue is that they're not offering the Quran as well. Or any other religious texts. If you aren't going to offer them all, then you offer none.

They didn't offer it to me. They offered it to my child at a public school.

Yeah big difference here. An adult has the ability to make choices based on reason and whether or not they agree with the premise.
I child doesn't really have that chance, a lot of what you tell them, they will believe. It's quite a bit easier to indoctrinate a child than an adult. If the kid finds a bible, reads it on his own, and decides he wants to be a catholic, then fine. But to be pushing it is not right.

Ha! My wife and I foster dogs for a local rescue, and I swear every person associated with that organization refers to the animals as "fur babies". I wouldn't really call it a gear-grinder for me, but I do cringe a little every time one of them says it. My wife thankfully hasn't picked up the habit.

That Bible would have been distributed by the Gideons, which is a non-profit organization whose primary activity is to distribute Bibles free of charge. Why should they distribute the Quran at their own expense?

Indeed.
When I worked for the library system, a number of volumes of the Quran were donated - 1 for every member library in our system. I was very disappointed when the decision was made to turf them, but leave xian texts in the system. I was unimpressed with the censorship. I'm an atheist but I feel like if you're going to make one sect's texts and guides available to the general public, then you make them all that way. I asked if I could have one, since they were just going to send them to the recycle facility in Drum, but they wouldn't allow us to have one.
