Mostly, yes. He has maybe one or two chances a game to do something, rarely finishes and just floats the rest of the game.
Frankly, he's proving why he needs to be in the AHL and work on his game.

Baertschi not getting much ice time. Don't think he has been given any OT time at all.

I've watched. Baertschi is invisible most nights. There's a number of players on the Heat far above where he is right now.
I know he's Calgary's golden boy and all but I call it as I see it. He deserves to be in the AHL based on his play. He is floating and he is not putting in the effort that you would expect from someone trying to get their NHL job back.

WOW!
Icehogs coach is not impressed with the effort today. The team is currently on the ice, with practice jerseys getting a bag skate.

I always like to see that. Disappointing we never see it at the NHL level.

If he is having problems it maybe time to bring in a sports psychiatrist for Baertschi? Either that or someone needs to sit him down and tell him he is wasting his chance to get back to the NHL. If he keeps it up he could become a long term AHL player...or shipped out....or KHL/Europe? No effort should result in no play time.

On one side, I can see why it's not implemented at the NHL level as stands full of people, takedown/setup for next event in some arena's or even just travel constraints not giving you time, but I agree that it would be good to see at the NHL level. It is the most "back to basic" thing you can do and for some clubs that might be something to turn things around. "You guys played like crap, you didn't give me a full 60 minutes so now you will bag skate for X minutes to make up the time you should have played". If used correctly, it could be a heck of a motivational tool.

I think one should have been brought in last season when he was demoted and moped around for a bit. I'm fully willing to give him the benefit of being young and still learning the ropes of being an adult nevermind a professional athlete, but this is also the time to start helping him out. If he had someone working with him at that point and maybe even over the summer when he had a poor showing at prospect camp, perhaps we see a different Baertschi. It's not hard to see that he doesn't have the same mental toughness and if he's down on himself, he struggles a bit more then others do. Help the kid out.
And yea, perhaps it's time for Conroy to have a very blunt but very Connie like sit down with him and explain how this works exactly. Maybe even put some fear in him that it's all well and great he's a 1st round pick, but we have many coming up, there's always trades and we have people passing him in the system so either he smartens up or he gets lost in the numbers game and begins the bouncing around game.

Don't give up on Sven yet fellas..
I still have faith, it will take longer than we thought but he should become a top-6 winger for us...
I agree that this is a mental hurdle he must overcome. He has the work ethic he just needs respond in games...
