To me the Islanders' issue is they have promising players that make the jump from Bridgeport to the NHL...and then they don't get any better. I kinda follow the Islanders and it seems their regular NHL players don't improve when they are with the big club. To me, that speaks of a serious development issue. Having probably the worst coach in the NHL doesn't help.

They do currently, but they really have not amounted to anything so far and may never.

Until a team turns the corner, they just don't turn the corner.

And they keep shooting themselves in the foot with bad trades. I'm wondering if the move to Brooklyn will make them more of a cap team instead of a cap floor team.

I fell asleep on the couch watching this shortly after it went up 3-0. I see I didn't miss much.

It has to do with my point initially. I also answered about the Islanders being younger, which you said "fair point" when you replied to me. The Islanders have a younger top 9 but I don't know if it's more talented then what the Flames have. Tavares and Okoposo are the best, though Monahan is probably more talented just not a mature talented the Okoposo. Vanek was obviously a great pick up in the short term but could be embarrassing in the spring time when they don't make the post season.
So younger? Yeah we covered it, they are by weeks.
Talented, yeah I think I've established they are, the star factor in Tavares obviously seals it for them.
If you're happy splitting hairs then congrats on to you. Again though, and I have to say this so I hope you'll understand this time, all that mean diddly squat until they actually do something. I really don't care if you're counting their chickens before they've hatched but I'm not ready to do that.
My point about the Panthers is obvious. That team had a buttload of young talent that show signs of greatness, flirted with it but never put anything together. Chalk it up to inconsistency, lack of depth, poor coaching, not mature enough, or whatever. You might have been ready to declare such a team as maturing and putting it together, I wouldn't be so quick.
Same goes for every Oiler hot streak of the last 8 years. It's nice if/when they go and look good but something has to come out of it in the end.
Go Islanders though!

Their core group is way younger and more talented than the Flames. Not even close.
Good night.

Yeah and you'll see the Flames shift away from more veterans this trade deadline and work younger players into their top 6 at the end of this season and into the next. Putting young players into the line up isn't that big of a deal, it's actually when they're doing something that they should be applauded for it.
When Vanek walks and Buffalo gets that good young player the Islanders could have had that won't be pretty either.
Hey thanks, same to you!

This is not okay. Even though we r in a rebuild it still shucks to lose like this. Burke cannot be happy about this. This is the type of game that makes trades happen. Wishful thinking? Probably

The Islanders "core group" wont be winning anything soon.
Vanek is likely going to walk.
At best they will be a middle of the pack team in the East for the coming years, imo.

This team is bad, everyone knows that, the Flames shouldn't be "rushing" into any trades. Wait until the deadline, unless someone makes a great offer.

If we changed plugs like Stajan/Stempniak/Smith, then yes.

A lot of people thought the Flames would be "expansion team bad." They've merely been "not very good," which is entirely on the coaching staff.

Yes, or tools like D.Jones, and Galliardi. Ahh, what the hell, they are all mostly tools except Gio and Hudler- Monahan gets a pass due to him being a rookie on a very poor team.

Thought before this game, and again afterwards:
Why didn't we sign Ribeiro just so that we didn't have to continue playing against him?
I think we could've really benefited from a veteran center with offensive talent. And sorry, Stajan doesn't count in that regard.
I really kind of want to swap a couple of our vets for others at this point. The whole lot's been fairly useless.

Monny gets a pass because he busts his ass every game.

Anyways, have to chuckle at how garbage the Coyotes' game breaking goals against us always seem to be. It'll be a tight affair, then they get some stupid bounce that we would get only a handful of times in an entire season. Then they just go from there with their ####ing Tippett airlocking system.
Sometimes I wish we still had Jarome just for the sake that he would ALWAYS beat up on Phoenix just about every time they'd go through there.
But seriously, how many behind the line or sharp angle flukes? Never happened so much against other teams. I really hate Phoenix. Only player I truly respect on that roster is Mike Smith.
