We know several Eleanors also. The name seems to be making quite a comeback. We know a couple of girls named Ella as well.

Traditional older names are quite popular right now. Lots of names from our grandparents generation being used these days....which I like as they tend to at least be nice solid names.
Funnily enough, if people want to ensure their kids won't have a super popular name, they should take names from their parents or even their own generation. There aren't a lot of tiny Jennifers and Debbies running around!

My great grandmother's name was Patience Hannah. I really wanted to use that, but switch the names around and go with Hannah Patience but my husband vetoed it. We both really liked Emily as well but ended up going a different direction.

My nephew and niece are both named after TV characters. Alexander (Xander, from Buffy) and Aurora (Rory, from Gilmour Girls)
I refuse to call them by their short names.
My daughter is Sophie Grace. But I call her Princess Sophington the Graceful.

It seems like when a baby is born these days and it's a girl, there is about a 50/50 chance it will either be a Sophia/Sophie or an Emma.

Yep - I like to remind everyone that their baby/child, if everything goes well, will be an adult for a LOT longer than they are a baby/child. Give them an adult's name.

There's also a great app for Alberta baby names from the Government - with the history of the popularity of each name dating back to 1980. Handy charts, which make it easy to see how names are trending.

I can't believe no one has mentioned local politician Kent Hehr. A couple of years ago, I used to walk by his election office and all the signs always made me laugh.

When they had to call him up from the back of the shop, they wouldn't actually use his last name in full - just used the U from his last name. They had to specify because there was more than one guy with the same first name.

Where?
ETA: Not sure what Babycenter is (my kids are adults, so not sure why I'd have use of something called Babycenter), but a very long time ago, I was on a private ezboard forum where that particular shorthand vernacular was used. I occasionally use it when I'm typing fast and trying to do two things at once and I'm not paying attention. I try not to use it at all anymore, because most people don't know what it means.

Fair enough. I have only seen it used on BabyCenter. My wife is on there quite a lot and I've come to understand quite a few of the abbreviations and such.

A brave Kelowna, British Columbia man and soon-to-be father is allowing Internet users to vote on the name of his future daughter.
Self-described "amateur baby namer" Stephen McLaughlin created the website NameMyDaughter.com to name his first child, who is due on April 2, 2014.
"I came home one day and was talking to my wife about naming our daughter and said 'you know, I should ask the Internet because that's what I do for a living,'" McLaughlin, who is a software developer, told CTVNews.ca on Monday.
....
As of Monday afternoon, more than 52,000 votes were registered on the website. Among the list of front-running "traditional" first names are Amelia, Charlotte and Leslie. Less conventional names include:
- Cthulhu
- Laquisha
- Megatron
- Zelda
- Not Zelda
