is there any well documented evidence that the kid has an attitude problem?
Pierre reported from the bench on NBC yesterday that Carlyle tore a strip off of Kadri for a lazy line change, and had to be restrained by other coaches.

Horrible for the leafs, the potential of Baertschi, Backlund and Ramo for Kadri/Reimer is probably decently close, but Kadri/Reimer are much more proven at this point.
Said it before and will say it again, if the proposals do not have one of a 1st, Brodie or Sven there is no chance the Flames get Kadri. Wideman? Give me a break.
The answer is probably somewhere in the middle, and depends on where the Leafs think they are. Adding veterans to improve the team now or continuing on the long term goal.
Recent Comparable Trades of Young Players:
Perron for Paajarvi + 3rd
JVR for Luke Schenn
Seguin + Peverly for Eriksson + Morrow + Smith
Ryan for Silfverberg + Noesen + 1st
Jordan Staal for Sutter, 1st, Dumolin
I would say Kadri has more value then Perron did, about the same value as JVR, and less value than Seguin, Ryan, and Staal had at the time of those trades.
Don't the Leafs want win now pieces? I don't see a team giving up a comparable player to Kadri except Buffalo with Myers. Myers+Ott for Kadri/Kulimen would work for both teams I think

Probably, but all of the above assets are
a) worth more to the Flames than they would be to the Leafs.
and
b) also worth more to the Flames than Kadri likely would be.
But I think it's difficult to predict what the Leafs will do, and what they would want in return.
This is a team that bought out their best centreman (who is now on a 24 goal and 65 point pace in Washington, while leading their forwards in +/-).
So that they could throw a $37m retirement contract at David Clarkson, on the basis of one and a half good seasons (who is now on a 6 goal pace, if you count his suspensions).
They also seem to have notions that they are are 'in it to win it'.
As such, I expect they might put quite a lot of value on veteran players, even those on expiring contracts if there is a likelihood of them re-signing. I think Cammalleri does help the team win now, and I think there's a good chance he re-signs in Toronto, so it would even be reasonable for the Leafs to place a lot of value in him as a trade return.
Doesn't mean they'll do it, but it wouldn't be completely unreasonable.

Unless we can fleece the Leafs, I think that any trade that involves our prospects and seems to be of equal value is a loss to the flames. Once the cupboard is a little more stocked, we can afford to trade prospects whom are organizational redundancies.
We aren't going to get Kadri for Dennis Wideman... I would guess around the league Wideman's trade value is close to zero. His contract is inflated for what he brings to the table. He is a decent PP qback and a fine stop gap to have during a rebuild but at that price will never be good value for a contending team.
If we are looking at something like Backlund + Sven for Kadri it's not worth it IMO. Sven's career PPG is .47 vs .62 for Kadri. Kadri is two years older.. I think Backlund has become a little underrated. He is good defensively, tracks the play well and is one of Calgary's only good players in terms of puck possession. If he can get better at face-offs he's exactly what you would want in a third line center.
Just because Burke made some critical but accurate remarks about Baertschi's play doesn't mean he is on the block.

Thanks.
I had completely missed that, fills in some blanks.
3rd worst defense in the league, don't know how many 27 year olds are out there that can slot in on our top line but we trade Smid and we are definitely last in the league for defense. Straight up the trade can be rationalized but with our d prospects looking to progressing very slowly we would be in for a lot more embarrassing games.
Add to the fact that Smid would take a bullet for the goalie I'd say don't do it, a diehard team player is valuable in a rebuild because he'll keep the rest of the team focused more than a guy like Kadri. (There needs to be a it's just my opinion and I'm fully aware I could be way off base emoticon)

No, they bought him-out because he was a third-liner last year and the coach wanted to kill him. He could not come back.
And Cammelari wouldn't even find any quality playing time in Toronto. They are stacked on the wing as it is.
Smid is the best defensive defenseman on one if the worst defensive teams.... That's like being the tallest midget. If we trade him our defence will get a little worse but it improves another area of the team then we improve our D in the offseason. Smid is t so good that he can't b traded, he's likely a #4 defenseman if not 5 on good teams
