I am curious as to why you are skeptical?
What more would he have to do to remove your skepticism?

A Seguin deal also looks better in hindsight - who honestly expected him to tear it up to the extent he is doing in Dallas?

The kid had 29 goals and 67 points as a 19/20 year old.
Him doing this in a bigger role on a team that pays less attention to defense shouldn't be surprising anybody.

Didn't nearly everyone expect him to be a 30 goal scorer in Dallas. He'd be trending for about 30 if his shooting percentage was his career average of 11.4%, so if has an above average year by this metric, 40 isn't really surprising.
The bigger question is who expected Loui Eriksson to do this poorly in Boston?

calgary puck really needs a thread with poll options on the kessel deal. i'd love to see how this pool of hockey fans rates one of burke's most controversial move.

Only thing Burke did wrong was overestimating his team, zero chance he makes this move knowing it would be a #2 overall pick in any year.

I don't think anyone expected a guy who had missed a handful of games in his NHL career to get concussed twice in three months.

Probably Sven and a first (at least)

I find that doubtful. King/Feaster maybe. Approval from Edwards on the money side, not the legal/logistics side.
Regardless, the legal error - if indeed there was one - was Feaster's. King's error - again, if there was one - was not forcing Feaster to get an opinion first from the League Office.

And you would have traded our future franchise players for a very good young centerman. His ceiling is still TBD and I think Monahan's ceiling is at least as high. Maybe not as a point producer, but if Monahan becomes an elite two-way center ala Bergeron/Toews, that's a top priority for a championship team. I like Seguin, but I think his speed let's him get lost out there sometimes. Granted I haven't watched much of him this year.
Either way I think that's a bad trade. Gaudreau will be the biggest point producer of the 3.

Interesting if that rumour is true about not closing the deal on Seguin. I am happy he didn't make that deal. Sean is the real deal and will be an impact player, there is no doubt about that. And we keep our other prospects.

Overestimating and improperly evaluating your team and assets and making decisions based upon these overestimations and improper evaluations are some of the worst things you can do as a manager. Furthermore, Burke has said time and time again that he would make the deal again so why make ridiculous claims that there's zero chance Burke would make the Kessel trade again if given a chance of a redo.

I can guarantee you Sven and Mono wouldn't get you Seguin today, the chance to get a young player of that caliber is pretty rare. If feaster had a shot he should have taken it

Wonderfull. Make us a guarantee that Seguin will be worth more than Sven and Mono 5 years from now and you might have something there. This is also completely ignoring the fact that most rumors had three major pieces going back to Boston, not two.

Sequin was quashed by ownership or by Feaster - we've heard both
ROR was Feaster's deal or ownership's - we've heard both
Seguin deal was Sven and 1st, Gaudreau and 1st, 3 major pieces - we've heard them all
I'd say we really don't know much about these topics

That is incorrect.
Edmonton is actually the 5th tallest team in the west and 8th heaviest.

Hmm. I wouldn't have thought so. Dubnyk really drives up the average I'm sure

I'm willing to bet if you looked at the players who play the majority of the minutes for each team Edmonton would be near the bottom though most of Edmontons' small players play the big minutes. Eberle, RNH, gagner, ference, etc.. all below league average in weight and/or height
