That's my former high school, I live a few blocks from there now and my daughter goes to school a few miles away. Pretty big school, all reports so far is they're looking for the shooter and 2 injured kids are on their way to the hospital
Edit: apparently the shooter shot themself. Looks to just be the two kids injured by the shooter, one critical.

I just don't get it. Is shooting up schools the "in" thing to do in the physco world?

Colorado? Try all 50 States in the Union. I am so grateful my boys have four police officers stationed at their high school, which is across from the local police station as well. Makes me feel a little better. I also get lock-down reports, and they lock-down the school if there is so much as a whisper something odd going on within 10 square miles of it- it's taken very seriously- but I STILL worry that some idiot is going to take his dad's assault rifle that's hanging up beside the elk head and the taxidermy bear and somehow open fire in the hallways. Guns AND people AND politicians AND the NRA are the problem here. But if you have to pick the worst offender, it's the guns. Wish we could just ban them, but that will never happen. |

This makes it the last 4 events that I recall ending up being nothing but hysteria over nothing or with just the lone gunmen dead due to suicide. This would be the worst of the 4 though as 3 were injured and hopefully all make a speedy and full recovery.

Event one: New Jersey mall gun-owner suicide
Event two: Yale lockdown for non-existant gunman
Event three: American University lockdown -- "gunman" ended up being off-duty police officer
Event four: Colorado HS 3 injured, one suicide

Are you American, Temporary User? I've noticed you spend a lot of time downplaying everything bad that happens in the US, on CP. Not being a dick, just curious.

Oh god if you actually knew me you would know I think a whole lot is ####ed with the States and would love to be able to fix the issues.
I wish these idiots would just kill themselves and leave everyone else alone. I wish the media would report the news about them briefly because people are interested and that is their jobs, I just wish they didn't blow them up to be week/year long events. That is the fame these idiots want.
I'm all for the freedom to own whatever it is you want. I think it is crazy that we here in Canada think some people are better than us and we just accept that as natural. I've never been there, but from what I read it seems the UK has found a good compromise that I would accept.

It is funny you see me spending a lot of time downplaying the bad things that happen. I wouldn't say I do, but I guess when it is a unpopular view compared to the majority on this board it stands out. Like I don't think you are a huge coke head, but you definitely like to party from time to time.

Aren't all these bad things though? And they all involve guns. Even the non-existent one is based on a fear of guns. So why are there guns?

Always good to know a life irrevocably changed due to gun violence or lost in a shooting is just "hysteria" simply because it's just one person or perhaps two.

The only reason this was even news was because it was in a school. If a gunman shot a few people in a Walmart with no casualties it wouldn't have even been mentioned

I remember reading about a family from south africa that came to the us to get away from this sort of thing. How sad.

I worked with a guy from South Africa that came to Canada specifically because of this. He had the choice of immigrating to the US or Canada, and chose here because "Canada has the freedoms of the United States with the sensibilities of the British". He's one of the most grateful persons I've ever met, said that living in Calgary was paradise compared to Johannesburg

Not surprised this hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet about the Colorado shooting...http://townhall.com/tipsheet/christi...ooter-n1763415
"When an armed school resource officer entered the room, Pierson believed he was cornered and turned his gun on himself, Robinson said. The entire attack lasted approximately 80 seconds and was captured by security cameras."

Wonder how many lives that officer with a CCP saved?

Can you back this up from a credible news source aside from some right wing gun nut web site?

No, no, it's quite logical: he was scared of being shot, so he shot himself, thereby saving himself from being shot. Quod erat demonstrandum!
