Eric Francis ( :\) says he asked Burke about this, and Burke reiterated that Monahan will be staying with the Flames.

As a Canada fan I'd love for him to play but as a Flames fan I'd prefer if he stayed. I think the benefits of the World Juniors are overrated.

If Hockey Canada ask for him, is that mean he won't be cut?

This is quite unique for Burke. He never kept a player in his draft year before. It came up before he was fired last year with Rielly. He said he never kept a junior eligible player before, but it was the coach's call.

Doubt he would have sent his 2nd leading goal scorer coming off injury, and not sure that his player would be held out in a medal game for his own good if the choice had to be made. At this point, you take no risks with your top prospect. Hockey Canada's only priority is GOLD MEDAL. The flames priority is long term health and development.

I agree with Hockey Canada asking. They have a job to do, and a phone call of "with all due respect, I understand there was a dramatic shift in your organization. I'm just doing my due diligence in inquiring if Mohanan is still off the table."

It's not like Hockey Canada is demanding Monahan from the Flames. They're just seeing if policy has changed. Not really much different than speculating a Flames player may now be available for trade and giving the Flames a call.

Random NHL GM: Hey, is Cammalleri available?
Feaster: Not at this time no, give a call closer to the trade deadline. If we get an acceptable offer before then and things chance I'll give you a call.

*Feaster Fired*

Same Random GM: just wondering if Cammalleri is still off the table until the deadline?

Burke: Yep, if things change I'll let you know.

You don't want a situation where Burke would have release Monohan but he was never asked.

Boo. Hope he continues to play against the games best players instead of going to some TSN hyped up tournament.

Big difference is that Monahan is already one of our best players and Baertschi is not there yet.

So Hockey Canada needs to ask the Director of Player Personnel for USA Hockey if they can utilize the services of Sean Monahan?

Good luck with that!

They can ask us about Monahan if we can ask them about Poirier. One answer will be contingent on the other.

He's already playing against the best players in the world, in a hockey crazy market and is playing an important role on the Flames. I think he stands to learn more and continue to improve his game by playing in the NHL than the WJC. I think the original decision to keep him with the big club is the right one.

He kept Luke Schenn with the Leafs in his draft year, which I think I read somewhere he believes may have been a mistake in hindsight.

Luke Schenn, Toronto and mistake fit in to a lot of different sentences.
