I can't believe people are screaming to have Hartley fired because of something that Scott Parker said.
The guy wasn't the sheriff, that would be a respectable term. The guy was a massive cheapshot artist who hit more people from behind then a Japanese Subway pusher and then comes out and whined that he was forced to fight.
You look at every NHL coach and I'm pretty sure that they told their fighters that they had to fight.
Scott Parker is just whining because the class action lawsuit got filed and it allowed him to become relevant again.
The guy put more players in danger then he fought cleanly, I normally have a lot of sympathy for guys with concussion issues but Scott Parker probably earned a majority of them by cheapshotting players and then taking punches because of his actions.
The guy was a punk during his playing career.
Exactly this.
Plus it comes out in the Denver Post a few days before the Avs and Flames play, call me a cynic but I am pretty sure they went looking for a player that had a problem with Hartley.
Yes, it was there periodically last season and as well as this season. Effort is a good thing but these guys work hard not smart and only hard in the offensive zone. These guys wouldn't be last in goals against if they were showing effort consistently.
And no one expected wins but we expected this team to compete in all 3 zones. That hasn't happened under Hartley at all.
I beg to differ. I think it is unreasonable to expect a young team to compete in all 3 zones consistently throughout the game. It is where the team will get to but a roster that has several rookies are prone to make a few mistakes every game it is just going to happen.
The Flames have a team on paper that is worse than Buffalo in my opinion. They have not had a goalie steal a game for them all year. The flames are where they are because they have worked hard and bought in. Credit the coaching staff for that.
I am certainly not a huge Hartley lover but really don't get the extreme hate some have for hi ? What do people expect? Personally I expected this team to be far more terrible than they have been and much less entertaining to watch
On July, 2012, Parker made some controversial comments about#Steve Moore. Parker was on the roster of the San Jose Sharks at the time of the 2004Todd Bertuzzi - Steve Moore incident#in which Moore's career was ended by an on-ice attack fromTodd Bertuzzi, but Parker and Moore had been teammates in Colorado during prior seasons.[8]#In an interview with milehighhockey.com, Parker defended Bertuzzi and spoke disparagingly of Moore, being quoted as saying "he (Moore) always thought he was better than everybody else. He went to Harvard, you know what, blow me. College grad. I never went to college, but I can kick your ass. I'll bring you right down to my IQ level if you want. I'll hit you about four times in the skull, that'll bring you right down."

So last year's veteran team couldn't play defence and this young team can't be expected to play defence?
Do we need middle-apex players? And we aren't that young.

I more or less agree with the rest of your post, but this is not true.
The effort is there almost every night this season except a couple off games. You can tune in expecting the effort. Last year I stopped tuning in cause it was never there. It's been much more enjoyable following the Flames this year, despite their shortcomings in skill and defensive play, for me anyway

I agree. I would also point to blocked shots as proof there is effort, you don't put your body on the line if you aren't trying.
The Flames have the #2 and #3 shot blockers in the league as well as another at #16. We also have shot blockers #14 and #27 among forwards. Glencross would be up there in the top 30 too if he had not been hurt.
So last year's veteran team couldn't play defence and this young team can't be expected to play defence?

I think goaltending is the bigger issue. The Flames are mid pack in shots against. Kipper was hurt and we have pretty mediocre goalies this year.
I think the vets on Calgary are decent but none are top tier. Gio, Wideman are solid 2nd pairing guys. Our goalies are brutal this year and last. I just don't know what people expect out of this crap roster we have right now?

I always thought that Parker was a piece of garbage and this just backs it up. Sometimes you reap the whirlwind and Scott Parker needs to reap it hard.
He can cry and whine about big bad Hartley screwing him over, but I don't respect what Parker is saying because he comes across as a untalented bitter hack artist.

So the guy who clearly feels it's ok to run around and intimidate people, "bully" them if you will with his fists, has an issue with being "bullied" or "intimidated" by his coach..................
Awesomeness. Sounds like he is correct about one thing, he didn't go to Harvard.

He likely couldn't even get into community college

I heard that he drove by it once on the way to work while grumbling dern fancy pants college kids. Then he picked up his mop and got to work.
I question Parker's story and especially the broken foot story. If a player goes to a coach and says I have a broken foot what's the first question a coach is going to ask. "I haven't heard this from the doctor or the trainer so why should I believe you"
the Hershey thing is how coaches talk its that simple. Bob Johnson, one of the nicest men in hockey walked around the Flames dressing room with tickets to the farm system when the team went into the long losing streak in their finals year, waiving them in players faces.
I think that Parker is omitting things in his story to make himself look better.
And as far as Hartley's no comment, good for him, what's he going to say? And if he says anything it just gives Parker a soapbox.
Garbage story about a garbage player, and laughable that people are screaming to fire Hartley over this.

I've talked to enforcer types who never even made near the NHL. There are a lot of them. They will tell you that it was a certain coach that decided your fate. One day you loved hockey and worked on your game like everyone else, then you the coach tells you are a fighter and you can't do anything about it. I think these dinosaurs will soon die off. I don't think I mind the fighting in the NHL as much as the fighters.
I think of instead of banning fighting, Hockey Canada should tell all minor league players that if they can record a coach or document a coach saying that you must fight this guy or any of that crap, that the coach will be immediately fired and can never coach again, permanently banned.
They have all these ridiculous programs to stop the odd rotten parent but nothing in place to stop bully meathead coaches that can ruin careers or even lives.

Kids talk and kids all know each other. I know of one incident that happened locally (central AB) in the past month. The coach gave the player the tap, and he went out.
Later that night the player texted a player on the other team asking him to apploogize to the player he "attacked". He said he had no choice, if he wanted to play, the coach would sit him if he didn't get up.
This coach is well known in Central AB and is involved in minor hockey beyond just coaching. As a result the league has done nothing.
It is ####ing disgusting, and I agree with you.

There is a difference between battling on the ice with other willing combatants and being forced to play with injuries or lose your job.
If you can't see the difference, you might not want to throw stones regarding college.

If you have a problem with players playing hurt or feeling they are forced to play through some injuries then you have a problem with the NHL as a whole, not Bob Hartley.
