Just wondering, who is responsible for picking the players? Is it just Sutter and his coaches, or is there some sort of bigger committee?

I don't want Poirier sullied by Brent anyways.
Go USA!

What you said was, "Not exactly a pretty sight for a rebuilding team."
Seems to me, and obviously others, you were wringing your hands that our prospects aren't that good because they didn't get an invite to the WJC camp. Try and dodge it all you like, but that is the impression you gave off.
On the list, I'm not surprised. I seriously doubt that Brent Sutter is going to be doing the Flames any favors anytime soon. I figured the Flames wouldn't get a sniff, even if Monahan was made available. Sutters have always come off as guys who hold a grudge, so the Flames will not be on his Christmas card list I'm sure.

Poirier leads the CHL in shorthanded goals and points, just would have thought he'd naturally find a place on the team.

I get that but with 44pts in 28 games with 5 shg, his sipped and grit would be welcomed on the team. He should have made it over a few of the selections imo

The Flames have had plenty of players in the past and it hasn't done much for this current squad.
Team Canada clearly has roles in mind for what they want on the team and knew which players would likely provide it.

Monahan would be there if he wasn't playing in the NHL. Sieloff would likely be the captain of Team USA if he wasn't injured.

That's not what I meant.
As winnings are few and far between for the Flames, Monahan hurt and Baertschi constantly benched, it would have been nice to see our prospects get a chance to showcase themselves in the WJC like Gaudreau did last year.
It's disappointing. Not much to look forward to as a Flames fan.

did he play well in the super series? I read a few guys say they thought with the smaller than expected group chosen the Super Series would be watched a bit closer
I know most Canucks fans weren't expecting Shinkaruk to make it because of his injuries this year but he played great in the super series and Sutter said afterwards

Is Gaudreau able to play for USA this year? Or too old?

Canada's world junior team breakdown: nine OHL, nine WHL, six QMJHL and one NHL (Dumba). They're still hoping NHL teams release others.

could still see a Monahan on the team then for those who wanted it

What role do you guys think Hartley played in keeping our prospects off the roster? I'm sure it has something to do with him trying to stiffle their development in some way.

I doubt he'd be that petty. I haven't seen much of Poirier, but 71PIM's in 28 games tells me that his "grit" may be a problem in a tournament where the refeereeing is always questionable at best, and tends to be worse than that if not played in Canada or the US.
What I can't believe is the popele saying, "Go USA". How about you go to the USA then, I'm revoking your citizenship.

Poirier didn't play that well in the Super Series, but neither did Gauthier (Poirier whole line did a whole lot of nothing both games) and he still managed to get a spot on the roster. Poirier wasn't given too much icetime in either game however, no powerplay time and just a little PK.

The WJCs have never been about national pride for me. It's always been about watching your own prospects before they become stars in the NHL. It's different than the Olympics.
So yes, I want to see Gillies shutout Canada every game they play.

No Poirier, no Monahan. I'm ok with being petty.

I was wondering when someone would say this. I don't really care about the WJC form a Nationalistic standpoint. Sure, I'll cheer for Canada as much as possible, but if it comes down to a Flames prospect having a fantastic tourney, vs. Canada with 0 Flames prospects winning...I'll go with the prospect. The Flames come first for me.

I don't believe this team has what it takes to win gold. It seems like there are a few more odd picks than other years, but I guess when you go with a short list the question marks really stand out.

Thought that Comrie would get an invite over Fucale, Fucale has been pretty poor this year, and I felt his numbers have always been suspect for how good his team was in front of him. Paterson was an automatic, he was probably the best goalie last year so they had to take him this year.
