Hockey Canada's WJC selection camp (no Flames prospects make roster)
List is expected to be released at 11AM MT.
For those wondering about Monahan:
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 23h
Even if no NHLers are ronamed to final camp tomorrow by Hockey Canada that doesn't preclude them fm being added after.
Also a different format compared to last year. Fewer players are expected to be at the selection camp (perhaps responding to criticisms that players who weren't going to make the team were invited):
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 23h
My expectation is around 25 players, give or take a few, will be invited by Hockey Canada for WJC team. May only need to make a few cuts.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 23h
By contrast, 35+ players were invited to final camp last year. 22-man roster must be declared Christmas Day. Final camp opens Dec 12 in TOR.
Sounds like Domi didn't make it:
Nick Kypreos @RealKyper 10m
No @phoenixcoyotes Max Domi for #WJC tourn? 12th overall pick in #NHL draft. #rukiddinme? Hope Team Canada know what they r doing.
update:
Leafs are not releasing Morgan Rielly:
James Měrtle @mirtle 12s
Carlyle confirms Rielly is staying with Leafs and will not play at world juniors.

Not a surprise with Domi not making it. If he isn't scoring, he isn't too valuable. There are lots of other guys that can score and do other things to help the team when they are not (like Poirier). You can't make it an all-star team - you have to build the best team. Kypreos is such a tool sometimes.
With the reduced number of invites, one has to assume the NCAA guys are in really tough to make the team. Jankowski and Matheson will both probably not get an invite I think. Will be interesting. Klimchuk being hurt has probably completely eliminated his chances - had an outside shot due to the Klimchuk - McDavid - Reinhart line at the U18s - but a very outside chance to begin with.
Can't wait until it comes out!

Klimchuck will get his chance next year I think. I agree Jankowski is a huge long shot to make the team. He's improved this year compared to last year, but I don't think it's been enough to crack this roster. Looks like Poirier is our best bet to have a representative.

Prediction: Regardless of the selections, Brent Sutter will be skewered by some.

Every year the coach gets skewered due to a couple of selections. Only gold makes that go away, in any year.

with Sutter's past WJHC success, if he delivers gold this year I'd say name him tournament coach for life.

Not interested in sending Monahan the WJs for what it's worth.
When the guy's already the 2nd line centre on our team...

Not surprising with his recent injury and having a 1995 birthday. He will have a much better shot at making it next year.

Dumba makes the camp:
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 15s
As usual, tho, list has already leaked out. Notable news: MIN has loaned defenceman Mat Dumba to Team Canada. He's the only NHLer on list.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 35s
With 15 forwards, eight defencemen and two goalies named, head coach Brent Sutter needs to release only two forwards and one defenceman.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 9s
That's assuming no other NHL players are added to the roster at a later date.

I don't mind as much if Monahan doesn't go (although I would've preferred it), but I sure hope Poirier makes the team. I always find the WJC's much more engaging when there are Flames prospects to watch.

Well just because Monahan isn't on the camp roster, doesn't mean he couldn't be added later.. if I understand this right.
I think we see at least a few more NHL kids added as we get closer to the date.
