Monahan Positives:
- Great shot.
- Very mature for his age.
- Knows where to go to score goals.
- Great teammate.
Monahan's negatives:
- Shies away from initiating body contact. Only 13 hits. Maybe a not a terrible thing for a young guy trying to adapt to the NHL game.
- Needs to make decisions quicker in the offensive zone when he has the puck.
Been calling him Moneyhands all season after reading it in an early PGT, love it.
And I wish I could put Monahan on my new retro, but my jersey snobness will never allow it. Hopefully those come back as the new regulars so I can do it. Love the Moneyhands
The Calgary Sun's Randy Sportak has an article today about 'Moneyhands'. What is the first know reference to this nickname? Was it here? If so, Randy should credit somebody from CP if he uses it in the title.

He seems to be starting to take the body a bit more the last couple games. Still agree he could be a little more physical though. I think that will come. Agree also about the decision making but also think that won't take long.
Win or lose, Sven and Monahan are the main reason I'm watching this season.
A buddy on mine who's had the same seats for 13 or 14 years emailed KK and told him if Hartley sits Sven for another game without a "real" reason he will give his tickets to homeless downtown bums and won't renew next year.
Haha was doing a quick scan through this thread seeing if something like this was going to pop up. Would have had to produce something far inferior on paintbrush if it had not...

Someone needs to update the gif of batman and robin running with Monahan and Baertchi's heads. It's a wonder it hasn't been done already! Guaranteed post game classic.

Monahans weight is listed at 185. While not bad for a 19 year old, most players in the league weight something like 195-210, so not playing too physical is probably sensible at this point. Besides, it's not a situation he's used to.
I'm sure he'll get around to it once he grows into a more adult size, but I think that will take at least one offseason with some serious strength training.

no athlete on earth can wear #23 withiut being at least marginally referencing Jordan. one of Jordan's many nicknames was "money," as in: "Money, its gotta be the shoes!"
Since Monahan wears 23 and since his name fits perfectly with the nickname "money" and since he is, so clearly, money, the only reasonable thing for Flames fans to call him is Money.
Calling him anything else is clear evidence you're an A-hole. Not an #######, an A-hole.

I noticed on Sportscentre this morning that the "Insider" Bob McKenzie stated that it's unlikely the Flames make Monahan available for the WJC in December.
I was quite surprised by this, and I'm not sure that I either understand or agree with the team rationale. Other than the risk of injury, what are the downsides in letting him go and possibly be part of a championship team? Obviously, his absence for a couple of weeks will have zero impact on this team's playoff chances. So what's the objection? Will he pick up bad habits playing at a lower level?
I'd be interested in what the majority opinion would be on this issue. Perhaps a poll?
I noticed on Sportscentre this morning that the "Insider" Bob McKenzie stated that it's unlikely the Flames make Monahan available for the WJC in December.
He also reiterated that the deam would make a decision closer to the tournament in mid-to-late December, which is essentially the exact same thing that was said when Sean was announced to be staying in the NHL past 9 games. So McKenzie basically gave no new info when discussing Monahan.
As for the WJC, if the Flames feel that NHL competition and play is best for his development, Monahan should stay in the NHL. I imagine the same reasons the Flames gave for him staying in the NHL vs. returning to junior a month ago would also apply to the WJC.
