Lost in all this was Feaster following through on his word. A bunch of people on here were getting mad at him for not taking on good NHLers who are cap casualties and he went out and did it.

Go look at that Feater quote about Monahan again, please.
Its asinine to compare our situation to theirs. We have the benefit of seeing there mistakes, and we don't have the team culture problems that the Oilers have. I understand its your go to response to viewpoints such as myself but your not looking at the big picture.

If management makes the same mistakes as the Oilers then we need to replace our management pronto.

Do you want the flames to play themselves into 17th-20th place again like the last decade? I dont wanna cheer for a contender, I want to cheer for a Stanley Cup Champion...

Liking this trade a bit more now (signed Bryz ) just praying Brossoit doesn't come back to haunt us.
but trading with the Oil leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth and greasy feeling fingers

OH MY GOD HELL YES.

We basically get Smid, a big, tough, top 4 defensemen for Horak? LOL. Our d corps when fit looks so much better with him.

Giordano / Brodie
Wideman / Smid
Butler / Russel

Yes pleaseeeeeee

It is beyond me how some posters are interpreting this trade as "Feaster thinks the rebuild is over". If anything, bringing in a 27 year old top-4 defenseman is part of the rebuild.... especially when we gave up a long shot goalie and a low-upside centerman who has been passed on the depth chart by Monahan, Colborne, Reinhart and Knight this year. Smid fills a big need. Horak didn't.

Brossoit is definitely the better prospect.
Roy is really not anything to write home about, and if I had to guess will likely walk away after the season is over (barring his play improves within this organization).

Oilers got hosed in this trade. They gave up a piece that actually plays hard for the team, making one of their weakest spots worse and got back a small forward which they already have plenty of....

Horak is similar in that he really isn't good enough to play top 9 for a good team but can fill in on poor teams.

I say fairly even deal in that nobody really gets anything great and kind of a meh forward for meh defenseman but since it sounds like the Oilers did this to clear space for signing Bryz and you a. should never sign Bryz and b. definitely not clear space to sign him it is a clear loss for the Oilers.
How can you say whether or not he's a legit top 4 on a playoff team when he's been on the Oilers for the past several seasons?

Typical Moon response.

If its not Weber or Crosby they are not a top 4 d-man/top 6 forwards.

The best part is, we have a surplus of defensemen when Gio returns, and someone like Butler or O'Brien could be moved for a pick at the deadline.

The Flames definitely got better today.

We clearly exploited the Oilers with this one. You have to think a big trade is on the table for them defensively. Maybe Philly?

Seems weird that the Flames were able to get a 2nd pairing D man for two down the ropes prospects.

So let me see if I can follow this.. the Erixon trade looks like:

Tom
Shane McColgan
Broissot (6th round pick)

for

Ladislav Smid
Tyler Wotherspoon
Markus Granlund

That deal just looks better and better for us each year. Thanks Tom!

Rumour of a barn brawl happening in a secret location earlier today. Two exec teams meet in a barn, each tabled a trade proposal. Winning team's proposal went ahead.

LOL

I said what many others have said in this thread yet it is my post you single out and try to spin into something I didn't come close to saying.

If you have that much of an obssession with me or hate my posts that much perhaps it is time you put me on ignore or step away from CP because there is no reason to try and clog up threads with your constant whining about me as a poster.

Hmm i'm surprised at the slamming of this trade.
Smid was maybe the Oilers best D man definitely a physical Dman. Granted their D overall is a joke.
Roy I have no opinion on.

Smid is under contract for a fair cap hit at 3.5m for 3 more seasons. I like his size and he is known for having a long reach.
I think he will do much better with the Flames.

Horak I was not really a fan of. I really did think he made his mark what he really was to the Flames. A 4th line Center is that what we are crying about.
He hasn't convinced me that he is going to be anymore than that.
At the NHL level he doesn't have overwhelming offensive or defensive skill. He isn't gritty so what is Horak. I wasn't much a fan of his.
Lets not forget the coaches felt he wasn't good enough to make out rebuild team. That doesn't look too good on Horak.

Brossoit like most goalies will take a few more years to develop properly. So the Flames either traded a decent future NHL starting goalie or an average backup.
Nobody can really say with certainty Brossoit is going to be a stud or a dud.
However having Gillies as a prospect makes Brossoit easier to part with.
