Why wouldn't the Flames trade him? That's the only ridiculous part here.

Sounds to me like he was a bit of a prima donna.

Apparently the other GMs realized he wasn't the best player outside of the NHL the year before.

With the shape he was in and his lack of any sort of aggression....if they gave him more ice time/opportunity he may have been killed or critically injured.
His fitness had to do with his blood condition, i get it but doesn't change the fact he was out of shape. It would have worked out great for everyone if he had a full training camp and season.

LOL, so he asked for trade last year, what 2 months into it? Yeah that's the kind of charcter the Flames and all the other NHL teams are looking for.
Not sure the Flames declined as much as got laughed at when shopping his $3.25M cap hit to contenders looking for help last year. And if they did decline and not shop, it's likely because they didn't need to ask to know they'd be laughed at and had a couple of much more important trades to be focused on last year.
You didn't make it because you weren't given a fair shake..........ok Cervenka, what every you need to tell your friends and wife so you can keep pretending you are good enough to play in the NHL.

Yeah, it was really just bad luck. It sucks if he has hard feelings about it, but we did receive damaged goods and with a short season, there wasn't a lot of time to let things work out. Too bad it wasn't this season that he was coming over because things might have worked out differently.

I would of kept him around for this season. Sounded like he had a major health issue (blood clot) that could of kept him from getting into game shape. Probably a uphill battle coming to north America and missing the first few months of the season.

This is why players should never be promissed anything. It just gives them an excuse when/if things don't work out. "Ohhh I wasn't given opportunity". That's a big pile of BS and we all know it. You were given a shot and were'nt doing enough to maintain it, sorry. This is professional sports. You only go as far as you're willing to work. It's like he didn't think he would have to step up his game in order to be a decent NHLer. You can't come in from the KHL and do the same things, train the same way, play the same way, and expect to be an impact NHL player.
And I actually liked Cervenka, I was willing to see what he could have done with a full summer of healthy training, but it sounds like he wouldn't come back anyways. And we have up and comers looking better than him anyways so it's moot.

From the sound of this, good riddance. Attitude is everything in a rebuild and I question whether Cervenka has the right mindset to be successful here. Sounds like he was expecting a lot of things on a silver platter and then got pissy when things didn't go the way he wanted. I don't wish him any ill will, but he's probably better off staying in Europe.

I thought he was given a fair chance more than others. He was a big part of the reason baertschi got sent down to the minors last season... The flames had too many left wingers to begin with (tanguay, cammalleri, glencross, baertschi, comeau) and, when it turned out he was a left winger and not a centerman, they had to send someone down. Baertschi didn't have to clear waivers so down he went. Cervenka got powerplay time and got to play with iginla and hudler. I think baertschi would have produced much more than cervenka given those same opportunities.

I don't think he had as much of a chance to succeed. He produced 17 points in 39 games and only had an ATOI of 13 minutes which in my opinion is pretty good considering he started his NHL as a "rookie" and for many parts of the season played on the 4th line. I think part of the problem with the flames is they advertise a merit system but in actual reality it only applies to certain players.

Well we were promised a center.
Don't want to comment on things I don't know anything about, but he's wrong about not being given an opportunity. He doesn't get the same chance on most teams.

Meh, Cervix was a low risk/high reward signing. It didn't work out. No harm done. Move on.

He wasn't one of Bob's guys that was pretty evident. I personally think had there not been a lockout things may have gone better for him with a full training camp and no injury because he had talent but like he said after the first few games he got bounced around a lot, benched, then 4 line duty. We have seen this treatment with other players Hartley isn't fond of while fringe players like Comeau and Jackman can do no wrong.

He wouldn't have earned any of the performance bonuses, so he would have been paid the $92,500 signing bonus, and then the remaining $832,500 of his base salary prorated to the 48 game season.

Math indicates that's about $560,000.

He's got 26 points (7 goals) in 25 games this season in the KHL (+8). He's a good player that got injured and had a rough year in a foreign country. Had pretty much everything goin against him and didn't have the support of his coach, which was clear from the start.
I wish him nothing but the best, I enjoyed watching him play in the limited time we had him. Was pretty much involved in every highlight reel goal from last season.
