What in the detail specifications of the TV corresponds to the input lag?
What 60 inch TV would have better input lag without having a much higher price on it?
Looking at all these different type of TVs and determining which specifications you can trust makes a guy head hurt.

I've got the 65" S60 waiting for me to get home so it can be delivered. I was waffling between it and the st line, but it sounded like an excellent bang for buck on the cnet reviews. And it is going in to a theatre room with good light control, so I decided I'd save the dollars as I am still thinking about getting a projector as well for that room.

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it's related to the processor in the TV, the amount of processing required (which is why PC mode will have less input lag, as fewer video processing effects are present).
I considered purchasing an ST60, but the research I did lead to impact lag being too much of a problem (here's a CNET article - http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7...for-input-lag/)
The S60 is a better model for input lag. A firmware update could fix the issue, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

CRT still put out a superior picture than LCD or Plasma but it's extinct for similar reasons that Plasma is soon to be. Hey turntables still reproduce music better than any of the digital technologies that succeeded it. No flaws to my argument as it's the nature of the industry that being only technically superior does not guarantee survival against more convenient rivals.

I've never seen input lag in any form listed by any manufacturers. You need to do some research. In the past it's usually been a TV with fewer processing gimmicks and so probably one of the cheaper TVs. Recently manufacturers have become more aware of gamers, so some more expensive TVs do well. Lag is measured against CRT TVs and monitors.

The problem seems to be that the lower the input lag the lower the quality of picture. This TV will be used for TV/Movie viewing as well so I and want it to work well for everything. Plus I want 3 HDMI inputs. 3D doesn't really matter for me.

I'm looking for a 55-60 inch TV. I would like to stay under $2000, but if it was a bit above that I could be convinced.

Have you considered Sony? For a 55", it's one of the best LED panels out there (Sony KDL-55W900A). It's currently $2299 at Futureshop, but it drops under $2,000 every now and then. CNET has it listed as their best LED - I considered this when I purchased my TV, but unfortunately, it didn't come in a 65" display

As this has turned into a TV advice thread.
I am currently developing my basement and looking to put a solid theatre setup down there. The basement will be open so I won't have a dedicated theatre room but I will put blackout curtains in so that I can control the lighting.
The viewing will be 75% movies/sports, 20% regular TV and maybe 5% games.
I have enough room to go with a projector and screen.
Would you rather have a 65 or 75 in TV or the larger screen with a projector?
If I go with the panel TV is it worth grabbing a Panasonic Plasma before they run out?

That does look like a pretty damn sweet. Definitely one to consider. Like you said the only downside is the size but I won't be sitting too far away form the TV so 55 inch is probably good enough.

I decided to go with the Sony KDL-55W900A. Went to Memory Express in the NW. The sales guy looked like he was starting to sweat when he saw the price NCIX was offering, but he did do the price match for $1950. I get it delivered on Monday/Tuesday.
He was pushing the 2 year IPR replacement plan ($269) pretty hard. I said I didn't want it and he told me I had 7 days to change my mind. Am I stupid for not getting the 2 year replacement plan after paying $2000 for a TV or am I stupid for considering it?

What credit card are you using? I have an Avion and I am under the impression I get an extra year under warranty on anything I buy. You might want to verify, as I haven't checked lately.
Anyways, you will get 1 year from Sony, and possibly 1 more from your CC, so I would say no.
I did have a Toshiba die on me, but it was 4 years old and I have only seen it happen that once.
All in all, I think the odds are you will be ok. I didn't get it for my Sony I bought last year and it was about $3500.
