Itse pretty much nailed it, so all I will add is I'm not crazy about benching Sven either, but I'm not going to give the rest of the team a pass for being "distracted" by the benching to not play a good enough game. Put blame where it belongs.

If you were to ask me who showed more effort: Jackman tonight vs. Sven in Chicago, I would have said Jackman easily tonight. Talent potential aside, we can't have players coasting. If you want to compare Sven vs. Glencross, we can do that, but I hate comparing Sven to Jackman. It's just not an apt comparison.

No, I didn't.
I said, and I 100% stand behind it, that benching Sven (twice!) on a team where you preach hard work and merit, while letting "veterans" ( I used quotes last time to... yeah, sarcasm ) coast is sending a demoralizing message. I also said that both times Sven was benched lead to horrid losses, which frankly is simple fact.
I mentioned 500 in response to dino's attempt to paint this team as worse than it is.
More to the point, I live in Toronto, where I have seen this behavior from the Leafs time and time again... it doesn't send a message to the young talented players, other than "#### this place". Sven is by no means a superstar, but he is also not the goat the coaching staff like to paint him as. If they keep this #### up, we piss away an asset for no good reason, with no good returns, while at the same time making the whole "work hard, get rewarded" ethos a complete crock of ####.

Not gonna happen. Buffalo has FIVE points after 16 games. We're likely ending up at 6 again ... and I'm like 8% joking. For sure Philly, Buffalo and Florida finish lower than us.

Oh, I get it, you're used to over-valuing talent that plays for your team over and over again. You should have said that to begin with.

Oh for the record, I dont hold that attitude at all. Benching Sven didnt cause this team to lose. But benching Sven certainly caused this team to be worse!
Calgary played a #### 10 minutes of hockey and it burned them hard. That said, Jackman was a liability, the team was listless including Monahan, who seems to be suffering without Sven.
So yeah, the players crapped the bed tonight. But... management certainly did much worse.

colborne isnt anything special at all, thought he didnt play well at all. cant catch a pass, dont understand why we sit sven and play both jackman and mcgrattan. all around bad game.. berra was fine i thought. if were rebuilding then why arent we playing sven? just doesnt seem right, may aswell put him in the ahl if hes not going to play.

I want Ekblad, but I just want to see this team keep the playoff bubble dream alive as long as possible. The longer they keep themselves afloat at .500, the longer they'll be just one good run away from making some real noise. It's when you get yourself into a 6, 7 games under hole (ala Oilers) that the season truly becomes a throw away. The key is winning attitude here, remember.

Re-build folks, relax, loooong season ahead with many more games like this. The talent isn't there, hard work will only last for so long. Just enjoy the good games.

Apparently reading comprehension isn't your strong suit.
I am not Toronto fan, look at my join date... fyi, you can be a Flames fan and live outside of Calgary. That said if you lived in Toronto the last few years you would understand... Burke has a history of well... picking a target and relentlessly (and stupidly) attacking it. Since coming to Calgary, that target is apparently Sven.

Well, even if we do pick outside of the top 3 (Ekblad, Reinhart and Nylander), you still have a few very good players like Nick Ritchie, Michael DalColle (Who I'd take if available) and a handful of decent D-men. There is enough talent in the top 10 that we should get someone that's as good as Sven or Poirier in terms of potential.

I don't see the problem.
Baertchi has played 13 games out of 15 now. That would give him 71 games over the season. It's not a bad number for a small rookie.
Baertchi also only has 1 goal and 4 assists despite only playing with the highest scoring duo on our team. As shown today, even Bouma can put up assists with Monahan-Hudler. So while Baertchis hussle has been nice to look at, and he does have a lot of skill, the results haven't really been there.
EDIT: shouldn't really be feeding this discussion...

You need a sense of humor first of all. The media in Toronto has always made more of things than there needs to be. Your opinion of Burke (and therefore this situation) seems to be a product of that.
Sven isn't being picked on that much. Backlund has also sat this year in an effort to pick his game up. It's not the end of the world. These are still young guys that shouldn't necessarily expect to be in the lineup unless they're contributing.
I won't convince you of the fact this isn't a planned attack from the big bad bully Burke, so continue screaming about it if you feel the need to.

Poirier and Klimchuk have just as much potential as Sven does (I think Poirier might have more actually) and we still have other guys like Janko and Gaudreau who have a few more question marks surrounding them.
Just because a lot of people haven't watched them in person doesn't mean that they don't exist.

See, this is where we disagree...
What other player has been called out in the media? More so, what other player has been called out three times? Especially in wishy washy terms like "3 zone play missing".
Once again though, I have absolutely NOTHING against Sven getting sat... what I do have a problem with though, is Glencross not being sat while at the same time the team wants to wag fingers at Sven as an object lesson.
Yes, young players are going to #### up, and need some time in the press box to develop. But when one of those young players is quite literally the only pariah in the press, someone ####ed up. Sit him, sure. Make a media example of him? Certainly not! Give veterans that are playing many times worse than him more opportunity, and christ! Praise in the media.... thats just bad management.

Next year is going to be fun around here when Gaudreau, Poirier, Sven and Sieloff will all be getting the odd healthy scratch or temporary demotion.
