WTF?
What is Hartley's love-in with Jackman? Sven brings 100 times more to the table than Jackman.
|
The difference between Sven and Jackman:
Sven is being developed. He has an upside. Jackman is already developed, and plays a specific role.

Agreed. I think he will be a Lee Stempniak type player. Good second line player that can put together some hot streaks. Haven't seen anything from him to make me think he will be a "superstar" though.

I don't love this decision, but IMO it makes a lot more sense then the first benching. With that said, what bothers me is not only that Jackman continues to dress, but that the coach also continues to gush over him like he's the next coming of Cam Neely. What is Hartley seeing that we're not? He's a dirty player, unskilled, not a tough (enough) guy or a deterrent and is not effective (not fast enough) as an agitator.
I really wish we had someone else to slot in, can we bring up Max Reinhart or something?

Wholeheartedly agree with this. It seems like the Flames have no issue trading or waiving vets and pluggers like MacDonald and Jackman, but are taking the patient approach with the young guys.

Exactly. I'm too lazy to look, but I'm guessing Hudler had his fair share of being benched as well when he was with Detroit as a younger player. We're not asking Baertschi to be Stephane Yelle, just don't develop lazy habits like Yakupov and Eberle.

If this is true, why is Jackman not traded/waived yet?

This Franchise hasn't developed a top prospect since Jarome Iginla.
Just a revolving door of promising prospects that either fade away or get traded to other teams and flourish.
Same thing will happen to Sven.
The jury is still out on Monahan. Great start to the year, but Sven also had a hot start.
If I was Johnny Gaudreau, I would have second thoughts about coming to Calgary.
I am all for accountability and benching players that deserve benching, but there have been far worse players on this team this year then Sven.

The Flames weren't really worried about drafting/developing players for a long period of time, they were worried about spending to the cap and trying to make it to the playoffs. They seem to have recently realized how important it is to work on developing players from within their own system instead of signing free agents or trading.

Lemeuix in Colorado.?????
You are actually comparing Jackman and/or McGrattan to Claude Lemieux?
4 time Stanley cup winner and Conn Smythe winner in 1995. The guy that scored 80 goals in the playoffs?
If Hartley had a choice between Claude Lemiuex under the age of 35 and Baertschi, Baertschi would not dress for another game this year.

What prospects has this coaching/management group failed to develop?
The organization is much different then when D.Sutter was running the ship. All of the prospects in the Feaster era have progressed or seem to be developing fine so far.
I know people like to harp on Bob Harley for being a "veterans" coach but he played a part in developing Tanguay, Hejduk, Drury, Deadmarsh, Vrbata, Reinprect, Heatley, Kovalchuk, Stefan, Lehtonen, and Coburn during their rookie seasons.
I will take his body of work over what us on CP think is right.

He gets very down on himself and it has shown in his play in both Abbotsford and Calgary.
In your opinion, what has he shown you that displays "responding well to adversity?"

Do you have any particular examples? I can't think of any ex-Flames prospects doing particularly well. Prust maybe?

St. Louis, Savard, JS Giguere are the most popular cites.

There are plenty of big players on the Flames roster right now, and all of these guys bring more to the game than just size. Jackman is useless.
Bouma - 6'1
Colborne - 6'5
Galliardi - 6'2
Glencross - 6'1
Jones - 6'2
McGrattan - 6'4
Monahan - 6'2
Stajan - 6'1
Brodie - 6'1
Butler - 6'1
O'Brien - 6'3

Watch the Monahan Hudler line go cold tonight. Sven's ability to drive through the neutral zone and make off the board passes have generated many scoring chances for that line

Agree one hundred percent. But I also hate seeing him sit out and Backlund-McGrattan-Jackman as our fourth line. This is not our best lineup. If Baertschi is not performing up to his ability I'd rather see someone else called up and given a shot, even Blair Jones who has been hot of late. The fourth line is a waste of spots for guys who could make an impact and a waste of potential in Backlund.
