In my first five games, I scored about nineteen points, earning myself a first career goal in my first game, and a first career hat-trick in the third game. Multi-point games, awesome plus/minus, flawless positioning, and first star of every game I played in.
After the fifth game, as it was simming the calendar to game #6, I get a message from the coach that I'm being moved down to the second line and that I need to work harder and prove myself to be moved back to the first line. I'm the league leader in everything that matters, never mind team leader. It took nearly twenty games for the damn game to put me back on the first line. Oh, and I had about seventy points by then.
So hopefully that gives you some insight into how much stock I put into EA's simulations.

For what its worth (which is almost nothing), my roommate said the Flames won the presidents trophy in his first NHL 14 season GMing the Habs.

That division is going to poop all over them. Colorado is the only team I see them matching up well to, and I could see Colorado having a much improved season this year compared to last. Winnipeg is in for a big let down.

If you decode the message and send in three UPC codes from TorqueyLoops cereal, we'll send you a secret decoder ring so it will only take you 17 minutes next time.

The Flames have no pressure this year. No one expects anything from them. A recipe for success?

They were bad. However, the thing about a team like the Jets is they have young bonfide stars. You never know when these guys will break out. E. Kane, Bogosian, Little, Wheeler, etc.. all get better and better every year. If a couple emerge as true franchise talents the team can follow a Chicago like projectory and go from shlubs to contenders over night.

The Jets have decent goaltending and a solid group of young defensemen. They aren't real deep up front, but they aren't a terrible team.

Trouba is also looking amazing and could easily become a top defenceman in the league in a few years.
Winnipeg probably won't make it this year, but their nucleus of young players is strong and getting better.

Yep Byfuglien and Ladd almost cost the Hawks the SC and did not play a prominent role at all. 4 years later at age 28 and 27 they are shadows of what they were in 2010.
Wheeler is a 27 year old 6-5 who is a drastic under achiever who only put in 36 goals and 105 pts in his 128 games in a Jet uniform.
Evander kane as a 22 year old only has 80 NHL goals.... playing a similar style to Iginla. Crap at that age Iginla already had 62 NHL goals... No chance of Kane getting any better.
Their best player is Bogosian.... He missed 1/4 of last season ... should write him off as injury prone.
They have lost Wellwood and Antropov and only replaced them with Setogughi who averages 20 goals/game for his 6 NHL seasons and Frolick who was barely top 9 with the best team in the NHL last year.
They are not adding any good young guys.... well only a Baertschi level prospect (Schiefle) whose name is as equally hard to spell and Trouba who we hope that Sieloff or Ramage develops to be in the next year or two.
They are playing in the powerful division with the Avs, Stars, Wild and predators..... 2 lottery teams from last year and 4 teams that have made the playoffs a total of 4 times amongst them in the last 4 years .
Avs 6 playoff games
Wild 5 playoff games
Stars 0
Preds 22 playoff games
How is this a tougher division than the Jets are used to?
The Jets are exactly where I am hoping the Flames will be in 2-3 years.

To be fair, there's something fishy about a team finishing dead last in a string draft only to be challenging for the president's cup the next year. Not too many people predicted that.
I thought the oilers would be better this year too, but my hockey iq is obviously quite low as my perennial mediocrity in hockey pools attest to

It just proves the season is played on the ice and not on paper. Its not about player ratings it is about chemistry and effort.

Chemistry, luck and skill.
All sports are a series of random events that can be influenced, but not predictably. There is no "way" to win or lose, despite the pundits claims of certainty on players or teams
