I Haven't had a real chance to watch any games yet this year, especially since I declined paying out for CI for a team voted to show up last to the party... so I've been living through stats and this place. But I'll admit I'm seriously curious for opinions on these two so far. Who's been watching them close to see how things are working out?
Will appreciate the CP scouting review on both
Argh, gg on auto correct, I know it's monAhan....

You are missing the best season in recent memory, picked the wrong time to quit CI.
I think they both have been playing very well, Monorail has been pretty impressive for a rookie getting lots of ice time.

I'm going to say it right now.
Throw away the hype and Monahan is better than any of the goofs up in Edmonton.

Nugent-Hopkins on another team as part of a different system probably has the edge on Monahan, but that's it.

 He's so fun to watch.

Monahan has been fairly consistent. He was never going to score at the point per game pace he was at earlier in the season, but I figure he'll finish around 45-60 points at the end of the season.
I think Baertschi has played better than the ice time he's been given (but we have a lot of LWers), though he didn't have a great game tonight. I still think he's getting quite unlucky with bounces and would have 2 or 3 more points if his luck averaged out.

I think that as a duo their nicknames should be Money and The Baer. Like two detectives in a great 70's cop drama.
Solving other teams' defence, one game at a time.

 Anybody?

Monahan has done a great job considering he's a 19-year old rookie. You can see he oozes hockey IQ which is why it seems the puck follows him around on the ice. The only aspect I see where it's obvious that he's a rookie is he'll sometimes still be a little slow at getting rid of the puck as I've noticed it being taken away from him a few times just as he's about to pass it to someone... but he will and is adjusting to the speed of the game in the NHL.
Baertschi's been decent but not spectacular. Definitely seems to have chemistry with Hudler and Monahan and I think they'll start going in for him soon. He's been skating hard so it'll come. Kid has phenomenal vision and skill.

I've watched baertschi all season and I am shocked how few points he has. He makes so many great plays out there and creates prime scoring chances every game but the puck hasn't been going his way. Look at tonight... There were 2-3 times where he was skating into a great scoring chance with speed and the puck was coming to him and it took a bad bounce over his stick. Love the way he plays and his awesome skills... Hope he starts getting rewarded for it.

Monahan has stopped getting some of the bounces going his way and Baertschi hasn't really had anything go his way this season. Hudler has also regressed. I expect they'll break out of this lull fairly quick.
Baertschi really needs to get some offensive confidence going. His ceiling is going to be determined by whether he can stop playing the game on the six inch ice surface between his ears and let his talent take over.

I think once Sven gets a goal, he'll go on a bit of a tear like Glencross did.

This season was always going to be about scoring by committee. Glencross and Cammalleri are starting to pick it up as Baertchi-Monahan-Hudler are slowing down.

Sven is such a streaky player. I fully expect him to go on a rampage soon. At the moment he's trying really hard to impress & overthinking out there. Lately, when he gets in a shooting lane, he hesitates & starts looking to make killer passes to his linemates.
Baertschi should be credited for some of Mony's success. Their chemistry is excellent & every game they get at least one or two quality scoring chances.

the best thing about Monahan is even though he isn't putting up points recently, he is still getting or creating scoring chances because he is such a smart player. He is only going to get better with more games under his belt.

Monahan and Sven are exciting, but outside of that it's a boring club. Smart to quit CI

Disagree I think the Flames are super fun to watch right now, the most enjoyable Flames team to watch in quite a while.

Agreed.

Even the games we are losing are close. There are very few games where we enter the third, and I feel like switching off the TV. Over the last few years about 1/4 of the games you knew were over by the end of the 1st. The Flames would get down a couple goals, and you knew the usual script of no pushback followed by a too little too late effort at the end of the third.

We also aren't seeing the epic collapses that Edmonton and Toronto went through in their rebuilds.

It's very early, and we may still finish last, but I doubt it. This already has exceeded my expectations in terms of being in every game, especially against the better teams. The young players have been disappointing, save for Monahan, but the new players have been exciting as have most of the other vets. I'd like to see more from Baertschi, Backlund and the kids in Abby. Perhaps that's just me being negative way too early

Who are you and why are you here? Please at least watch a game if your going to flood these forums with posts.

Every single game (apart from the Phoenix game) has been at least as exciting as the best game last year. Monahan and Sven have been exciting to watch for about half of them.

We have so many consistent scorers with some skill that are fun to watch. Wideman is laying people out this year and we've seen plenty of up's and down's with goaltending. We are scoring more then ever and keeping EVERY game close.

Worst time to quit CI, this is the opposite of a boring club. Give your head a shake.
