Well, you were wrong about Toews. I'm hoping you're judgement is the same about Jankowski too.

Really? You are going to compare every NCAA prospect as being a bust compared to Toews?

For shame anyone in the NCAA that spends more than a couple of seasons there and doesn't win a couple of cups right away.

Jankowski is going to be fine. I can almost.....ALMOST guarantee he makes the WJC squad this year. Why? Because outside of McDavid and S.Reinhart, they're going to need his size and speed.

Theres three Flames prospects I can think of that have a better then good chance at making the squad. Jankowski, Klimchuk (that Reinhart, McDavid, Klimchuk line was pretty dominant in the U-18s) and Poirier. I hope they all make it and represent our team and country well.

Poirier has a good chance, should make it.
Jankowski is probably on the outside looking in, chances look better after being invited to the summer camp and getting off to a good start.
Klimchuk is a huge long shot, he's still 18 and has another year to play next year. This is a 19 year old tournament unless you're a special case for the most part.

I cannot seem to think of any other centers that would bump Janko from the line up. I am of course excluding the ones that are currently skating in the NHL as I dont seem their teams letting them go.

Im looking at the likes of Domi, Horvat and Gauthier and thinking, Jankowski is better than those guys. Homer glasses maybe but the larger more mature competition in the NCAA could edge him out over them.

I agree about Klimchuk outside of what I said in the first post.

7 months older than Jankowski is now, Toews was 18 when drafted and played another year, Again, Jankowski turned 19 last month.

Well these are the forwards that were invited to the Summer Camp:

Jonathan Drouin
Nathan MacKinnon
Anthony Mantha
Hunter Shinkaruk
Charles Hudon
Brendan Gaunce
Tom Wilson
Max Domi
Kerby Rychel
Connor McDavid
Félix Girard
Nic Petan
Sean Monahan
Scott Laughton
Frédérik Gauthier
Sam Reinhart
Curtis Lazar
Brendan Leipsic
Bo Horvat
Émile Poirier
Ryan Rupert
Mark Jankowski

MacKinnon, Monahan, and Wilson are all with their NHL teams and are question marks to go (well most likely not MacKinnon).

Hudon and Drouin both made the team last year, so are pretty much locks this year.

Would be tough for Jankowski to make the team as a center or a top 6 winger.

I really hope this year the team is picked and coached on merit and skill... Not just picked because the older players get to play.

Jankowski will need to keep up the PPG pace to make the team, and even then I am guessing he is the 13th forward.

Although his size, skill, and ability to play C or W would make him a good 13th forward.

Any other prospects you want to tell us we should or shouldn't be excited for?

I'm guessing they are all going to be shouldn't......

Will be tough for Janko to make the team. Three forwards are currently in the NHL that were invited to summer camp, so it's unlikely they make the team. Then you have 10 guys who IMO would be considered locks.

Think you have 3 spots for the rest of the guys then, and I'm not sure Janko fits in that group. If any of the NHL guys get released then I would say he has no chance for sure.

How is his physical play? Grit int he corners?

Just throwing this out there -- if Janko's offensive development plateaus, any chance he could get converted into a defenceman at some point? Seeing that size and skating ability, it reminded me of Bouwmeester. I'm not enough of a hockey expert to know whether such a transition would even be feasible these days (for a guy like Janko or anyone else for that matter -- Brent Burns?), but just curious is all...

Is McDavid good enough to make it as a 17 year old? Did Crosby even make as a 17 year old? I wouldn't put him in the lock category. Reinhart as an 18 yr old is definately a lock but even a generation 17 year old has difficultly making these teams.

Yeah, that's a crazy long shot idea. Guys get converted to offense from the blueline but not the other way round. Brent Burns was drafted as a defender, the Wild moved him to forward then moved him back, now the Sharks have put him on the wing again.

Crosby made the U20 team as a 16 year old IIRC

I just want to see him progress to a 1 ppg centre on a competitive team, in a competitive league. No shame in "missing" the WJC. As a Flames fan, I would rather see Poirier on the squad.

Every time I see Jankowski play he reminds me of Jason Spezza.

Sergey Fedorov.

I can't think of anyone else. And even Fedorov didn't become full-time blueliner.
