Default Goalie CON

Did something change this year in regards to goalie CON?

Cam Ward faced 39 shots and is a 97. Last year I think he would have been a 98 (given that I posted a thread last year asking about a 40 shot night being a 97).

It wouldn't be a problem, but given the oddities of the CPHL schedule with teams having 4 games in 4 nights and 4 in 6, increased goalie fatigue will be difficult to deal with.

That's why you spent all that money on Khabibulin though!

I didn't spend any

he's been here since I moved in!

Even with a decent backup, 4 games in 4 nights (twice this season for me) with a harsh goalie fatigue system could spell bad news.
I don't think it would be a problem if the schedule accounted for travel time and didn't allow for 4 games in 4 nights

I think I may have hit 97 once or twice last season, tops.

I was wondering the same thing. For being this early in the season, there are a lot of really fatigued/board line not playable goalies in the league.

maybe recovery changed? I noticed Bernier didn't recover at all with a day of rest - he has lower EN/DU ratings though.

I noticed the same thing. Lehtonen played day 2 and when I did lines for day 4 he was still a 98 which is very unusual.

Edit: and now after today he is a 96. Yikes.

CON isn't the Concussion rating, Pat.

Throw a tinted visor on them and they are cleared for contact. You are talking to the expert in concussions here.

I'll check the settings. Having the backup actually have to play would be good though

Oh, absolutely.

I'm worried about the really tough schedule that we usually have since we don't have rules limiting the number of games played in a time period.

I haven't looked at other teams, but I have 2 stretches of 4 games in 4 nights and 6 in 8. If Cam Ward faces 35+ shots on night one and Khabibulin faces 35+ on night 2, I'm looking at having to start a 97-98 CON goalie on night 3 which could easily drop him below 95. If I'm lucky to make it to game 5 and get a day of rest, I'll still be looking at starting a 98 goalie for game 6.

I just don't remember it being this harsh last season.

A good example is on Rob's team. He's played 2 games in 4 nights and his goalie is a 96. Looking around the league, there are tons of 97s after last night's matches.

Further to Pats point about overall player conditioning, I also noticed that something has changed. For example, OEL played 28 minutes in the first game of the season and despite being a 92EN and 97DU he was rated a 98CON at games end.

Might just be me, but that seems noticeably different from last year. Perhaps the sim has changed in this respect?

Current settings are that a player loses 1 CON for playing more than 23 minutes, 2 for more than 25. D gets a bonus of 3 minutes.

That's "Fatigue for 100 Endurance players" - according to the sim settings.

I've not changed the settings at all - but maybe they shifted when we downloaded the new version of them.

That's actually really good info to have. Answers some burning questions I had about the EN rating

Thanks!

whatever you do, don't touch the slider on fighting.. I have Grats, Carcillio and Jackman and now with the Marleau injury I get to call up Scott. I've been waiting a long time for a SIM like this am loving it>

I've actually went out on a limb and banked me season on this Sponsorship wise

Just so it's not misread, a high or low slider setting would make no difference with what I'm doing... the reference center point of the league remains the same regardless

Wow that's very good informaiton to know. I always assumed that the league sliders were similar to that for rosters. Somewhat vague scales, but it appears, in this case at least, that they can be very specific. I'm also pretty surprised to see that EN/DU really have no impact it would seem on the con hit a player takes in a game (presumably they factor into recovery time?). That actually really impacts how I target and value certain players as I have always specifically sought high en/du players with the mindset that they are more "playable".

So to that note, is it possible to make the entire slider system (screenshot perhaps?) public knowledge for the league? things like this seem like a pretty important piece when setting lines and utilization.

As a final note, I'm not sure there is anything that could be done about this but the rate that players are fatiguing doesn't seem inline with the NHL. Again, my example of OEL...If i played him 29 minutes a game on back-back nights he would be unplayable for 3-4 days. Where as it is common place for him to play 29 minutes a game in the NHL. Not sure what can be done about this if ratings don't factor in to conditioning hits though....just a thought.
