Yakupov has a lot better players to play with then Hall did when he first came in the league.

At what point is it no longer a "small sample size"?
Seven games is enough to say they've consistently sucked. This isn't just a couple bad games, this is already almost 10% of the season. Obviously there's still a lot of games to play this year and they could turn it around, but so far it's safe to say they are not very good.

[News] Oilers Scratch Yakupov... Again
This quote has nothing to do with how good or bad the Oilers are..... clearly they're horrible. Some fans want to believe it's just goaltending, and hey, good on them, keep hope alive and all that crap. Ignorance is bliss as they say.
In regards to small sample size, it's is all relative. 53 games may be a lot, but to extrapolate on a career based on that is ridiculous. Especially in a sport like hockey where teammates, chemistry, opportunity, roles, etc can have a significant impact moving forward.
It's interesting to see though just because of the media scrutiny Yak has received compared to Hall. Granted of course his comments and perceived effort as of late are making things far worse for him. Don't want to turn this into a stats debate thread like so many others seem to going towards. Just find the similarity pretty interesting is all, even if just for coincidence sake.

This whole thing reminds of me Jason Bonsignore. He had issues with Sather back in the day, which IMO seems to be a systemic problem with Oilers players - various levels of reasoning for not performing or not wanting to be there.

Wow, my reading comprehension is awful today. I completely missed that your post was about Yakupov's and Hall's first 53 games. I just assumed you were talking about Edmonton's season so far.
Carry on.

It will. And it rhymes with "Schmizgalov":

@TSN1050Radio Darren Dreger: If offered Nail Yakupov, he doesn't think the Leafs would give up James Reimer. Too much doubt over the fmr #1 pick so far

I am sure it came up at Thanksgiving dinner with his cousin. There's really no point in him hiding his direct family connections.

I know Yakupov isn't the best right know but to say a Number 1 pick a good trade for reimer is pretty far assumption.

Wow, Dreger is on crack. I wouldn't even give up a middling prospect for Reimer, let alone a former 1st overall pick from 1 year ago.

What a tool Dreger is. If the Oilers offer you Yakupov for Reimer you take it and run. Yakupov is being treated like this because he's Russian no question about it.
RNH is completely useless out there yet Yakupov gets called out.

Dreger is just a joke at this point. Nonis would drive Reimer to Edmonton himself.

How many points does RNH have, Puckluck? How many does Yakupov have? You can allege bigotry all you want, but Yakupov is being treated this way because he has been hot garbage.

A whopping 3 points and a league leading -9. RNH sure seems to be playing well except when you actually watch him play and see that sometimes +/- does tell you a pretty good story. He's been downright awful.

For what it's worth, Dreger/Nonis are 2nd (or 3rd) cousins...

Even if they were brothers or just friends, it just seems more and more like Dreger is being paid by the Leafs, especially in the last 6 months.
