Former No. 1 overall pick Nail Yakupov could be considering a move back to Russia to play in the Kontinental Hockey League, according to a report.

Don't forget Hopkins and his -7 in 3 games. All there "best" players have been terrible thus far in the season. When Boyd Gordon is your best player five games in you know you're having some problems.
Too bad they're playing the Capitals tonight, as that could be their one win on this road trip with how poorly the Caps are playing.

Easier to scapegoat a Russian than one of the Canadian golden boys.

I feel like the KHL reports are a little premature, but not inevitable...and that's exactly why I didn't want us to draft the hot russian prospect this summer. For these Russians kids who have promises of wealth and idolization back home, the KHL is just too easy of an out when things get a little tough.

if he really wants to stick it to the Oilers he will demand a trade to a list of NHL teams he will report to, otherwise he will go back to Russia. That list of teams will be a short list, one team, and that team will be Calgary.

Things aren't a little tough for Yakupov. They're down right brutal. Right now the Oilers are scapegoating him. It's one thing to make him a healthy scratch for one game but after the performance the Oilers put on Saturday night someone else should be accountable for tonight's game. Two scratches in a row isn't holding him accountable. It is insulting.
You want to hold him accountable then take away his ice time later in the game but throwing him in the pressbox for multiple games on an embarrassingly bad team doesn't accomplish anything more than one game in the pressbox would.
His comments were probably to get traded out of Edmonton and the Oilers "brain"trust probably encouraged the Edmonton media to right an article about him that paints him a bad light.

The Yak's trade value becomes precisely Zilch once he starts threatening to go to Russia... They've played this like complete fools. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of ####s.

Are you serious? You haven't watched Yakupov this year if you think they are scapegoating him. In fact the person responsible for losing the Toronto game is also sitting tonight, Mr Devon Dubnyk.

Yakupov isn't going to the KHL. Sheesh. How stupid is this? Players get scratched. Smyth was scratched the game before.

Now I'm glad that we don't draft Russians in the 1st round.

Yakupov is a legit goal scorer. Nothing this seasons changes that for me. The problem is that Eakins is trying to make him something be isn't. Much like Semin, the kids is pure offense (and pretty good at that)...trying to change his game is a waste of time.
Yakupov probably shouldn't have said what he did...but he's a kid reacting to a lousy situation.
I hope the oilers trade him and he lights the league up.
Keep heading in the right direction, Edmonton.

If the Oilers tried to hold everyone accountable, they'd have to forfeit for lack of players.

There are countless legit goal scorers who never made much of their time in the NHL.
Panel Brendl was as legit a goal scorer as they come. He had 22 career points in the NHL.
