Sample size isn't enough yet, but the early trend line suggests we traded a 4th round pick in exchange for very little.

I like him, he hasn't done much but he just got here. I think as soon as he develops some chemistry with someone, he'll do well.

I would like to see what he can do on a scoring line rather then on the 4th line.

I think Horak brings more to the team now and probably in the future.
Colbourne is not an NHL player right now. Playing in the NHL is not going to fix this. He should be learning form Ward.

If we are replacing someone in line-up I would much rather see Street sent down and Colborne given his minutes.

I agree with everything you said except the part about giving Street's minutes to Colborne. I think that all things considered, Street has played extremely well in what is essentially a utility role bouncing between the lines and filling gaps wherever needed. Street has earned his minutes, Colborne has not.

He's 23 years old and has played 217 games in the AHL. Its time to step up to the plate and start hitting.

When you put it like that, I think he was a wasted 4th round pick.
Developing Horak should be a bigger priority for this team as they gave up a first round pick for him. Horak seems like a reliable NHLer to me. Not sure why the team is down on him.

He is doing alright. Probably no better or worse than a guy like Horak would. It's one of those things that you never really know if a guy like Colborne is going to actually put it all together. If he does, then you've got a good 3rd/4th line C that's massive and can chip in. If not, it's a waste of a 4th round pick (not a huge deal)

exactly. Sure, you could find a Brodie or a Gaudreau in the 4th if you're lucky, but chances are you could also end up with a Nick Larson, Aki Seitsonen, Henrik Bjorklund, Hugo Carpentier, J.D. Watt, Kris Hogg or Jamie Tardif. All Flames 4th rounders in the last 10 years. If you think about it that way, I'll be more than happy to take Colborne and give him some time.

Agreed. The only problem with this is that if he gets picked up via waivers Feaster lost a pick for nothing, so Colbourne will stay up unless his hand is forced.

The guy is going to be a project, if he was close to being an impact player at the NHL level he still would be in Toronto.

If it gets to the point that they put him on waivers, would any other team put in a claim and commit an NHL roster spot to a guy who can't stick as a fourth liner with the Flames?

Colborne is a 2008 draftee. So if we had a 2008 draftee that was unable to crack the team, would you keep him and hope he pans out or trade him for a 4th?
I think the fairer comparison for this trade is what percentage of kids, 5 years after being drafted, haven't yet cracked an NHL team but will still turn out to be good players? Compare that to your chance of finding a better player with a 4th round pick.
In your listed Flames draftees, 2 of 9 have a hope. Is the chance of finding a 5 year out reclamation project like Colborne more than 2 in 9? My gut feeling is that a fresh 4th round pick is a better bet than this type of reclamation project. Once we have a decent set of games in the Joe Colborne sample, I hope I'm very wrong.

I barely noticed him in the games at all. I say we trade him for free beer/hotdogs for everyone at the dome.

Colborne is 3 years younger than Street and yet he has 40 more AHL games played as well as more NHL games played (and with better NHL production than Street). There isn't really very much out there to support the notion that Street deserves to be in the NHL more than Colborne, aside from the fact that he has been with the Flames organization longer.
I'm okay with Street getting a chance to show what he is capable of but I hope that in the next few games he gets bumped into the 4th line or pressbox so that Colborne can have a couple games with more minutes. This could also allow Jackman to come back in to the 4th line.
