Edit: how is starting a thread like this less of a waste of time then emailing the flames?

Because everybody on CP makes six-figures so naturally somebody would have knowledge towards this.

Although, I think all the suites are owned and the likelihood of a season rental option is very small.

Because posting in this thread is voluntary, so you only have to post here if you want to; ie, I'm not wasting your time, you're wasting your time.

I don't have an exact number can provide some details. Our company use to own 1/3 of a box in the lower level. When you purchase a box you're not just buying hockey, you're buying every event that comes through the dome regardless of the event or if you choose to attend or not.
Minimum ticket purchase was 12 per event for our box, max was 16.
- flames game price was $180 each I think.
- it wasn't unusal to spend $1000 per night on food and drinks.

We've used the suites that the link refers to 4 or 5 times over the past 4-5 years. The suites are in the top corners of the Saddledome and it's not a great place to watch a game. We stopped doing it because with food and drink it was getting close to $1,000 per person and we didn't see value.
Regarding more conventional lower bowl suites, as of last summer there were none available on a season basis, and I got the impression they don't come up very often. During the year there are occasional games that come available. For the one-off games for lower-bowl suites, the only pricing I recall is an 18-person suite for a mid-week game for $12,000. Typically these come up several days before the game, so not useful if you want to use this for a client event.
You'll have to get connected to one of the Account Executives who deal with their premiere ticket products to get updates on suites.

In the past, Ken King has said that they could have twice as many suites in the building and they'd still have a waiting list.

Prices are very high. We used to have a small suite upstairs and paid almost $100,000 per season in lease charges. Plus you have to spend certain amount of money in food charges, averaging approx. $500-600 per game.
First tier suites could be triple that lease amount depending on the size and there is a huge waiting list to get one. Hence the reason they want a new arena accommodating two levels of the first tier suites. The suites are extremely profitable for the organization.
As an added perk, suite lessee has the first right of refusal on all concerts at the arena (tickets to these events are not included with the lease).

As the old story goes, the CEO of Pengrowth bought naming rights on the Saddledome because it was the only way he could get a suite. And this was when interest in the Flames was at an all-time low.

15 years ago suites were somewhere between 90,000 and 120,000 per year, and I remember they had a minimum three year lease. Plus the tenant obviously pays for the suite renovation if they desire.
That was during the young guns era. The suites are an easy sell in this city regardless of the on ice play.

It's not 'someone'. It's a company or corporation that buys these things.

Suites are used heavily for client entertainment mostly. They have a lot of promotional value to companies that work with diverse clientele. The company I used to work for was far from a multi-billion. Our suite neighbor was an O&G drilling company, definitely not a multi-billion. Big law offices have a few suites on the lower level. Some companies share a suite 50-50. A good rule of thumb is that 5% of any corporation's revenue is used for marketing. To justify a $500K per year promotional expense for a lower level suite, a corporation needs at least $10M in sales revenue, which is not exorbitant. Still a lot of money, of course.

Oil companies. I work in wabasca right now where the oil companies have paid 12 million SO FAR for 9 holes of an 18 hole golf course so the big wigs have a place to golf when they have to come up here.

Don't they get to write off part of the cost of suites as a business expense?
I had a chance to go to a Flames game in a TransCanada hosted box, but I couldn't make it, living down here in Lethbridge and it being during the work week. From what my boss said though it sounded like a good time.
