Panther fans have been moaning about Gilroy, so this is probably another decent move by the Panthers. If he works out, but not enough to polevault them into the playoff picture, they can move him at the deadline and hopefully wont make a constant atmosphere of losing like up north.

And if it helps the Panthers get ahead, it might mean the Flames get a better draft pick.

Agreed, at $900K this is a great deal for the Panthers. If he does well they can probably get a decent draft pick out of him at the deadline if they're out of it.

I can see teams paying a decent amount for a rental at the deadline for that contract.

It's pretty wild when they went on the shopping spree and spent a hell a lot of money on players that weren't based on projection but based on hope.

I mean Versteeg worked out for them but Upshall for 3.5M per year? Scottie hasn't put up crap. I guess Kopecky fits in between them based on contract and performance.

Seems like Whitney was desperate for any offer at this point.
