Higgins and Hansen are 2 good third liners with identical contracts

Good signing. Hoping the Sedin sisters at a ridiculous price and term are next.

that's a really good deal
he's trending up
2010/11 29 points
2011/12 39 points
2012/13 47 (prorated over an 82 game season)
and he does it playing pretty much 3rd line minutes, very good defensively great pker

Damn. Good deal. Guy's better than Chris Higgins and costs the same for 4 years.
This is a guy I want to pick up as a sleeper in my fantasy league. Last 2 years he's been 30th and 9th respectively among all RWs in the NHL in points per 60 minutes of ice time. That's the stat that I'd tend to use to predict whether someone has potential to score more than he previously has once given the chance.

This is one of Gillis's rare good moves as Hansen is a solid utility forward.

This is a good deal. He is an excellent skater and a terrific PKer. Too bad he's staying in Vancouver.

Rumour is Sedins looking at $7.5M each.
Good contract for Hansen but it continues Gillis' trend of tacking on movement/trading clauses.

For one or two years that's fine. Any longer, and as an AAV that's pretty awful.

They will be offered 5 years in the open market easy... Hope gillies offers 6+... I thought the flames had big contracts a few years ago BUT Vancouver keeps trending that way. They have tanev + kassian to sign next year along with the Sedins... That's like 18 million committed on 4 players

I would be fine with 4 years at that, based on what others have gotten it would still be below market and the cap will go up next year (and likely continue) so it shouldn't hurt them at all
Gillis has had some issues with trades, but signing contracts (either re-signs or FAs) has been a strength

The city itself, and the upward swing of the team made it easier on him.

probably true, and Hamhuis/Garrison being BC boys helps too
but he still did it, plenty of teams in similar situations overpay on July 1 for guys or overpay their guys all the time
