seems pretty ridiculous, and if taking ur helmet off before a fight is an offense, then this should also be penalized.

Latest Dreger report says rule is due to concerns over possible head injuries when players fall to the ice during/after a fight. Still a dumb rule.

Tweek to the rule, much like the jersey tiedown. Penalty is you helmet is not done up and comes off when you fight.

What they should penalize is the single or double leg takes downs that have become so prevalent in so many fights these days.

Silly circumvention to an equally silly rule. I can't wait to see how they get around the "no dropping your gloves rule" that is surely on its way.

Suggestion: a rugby-style padded cap under the helmet for guys who are expecting to fight.

This is the dumbest rule yet. Let the fighters decide for themselves whether they would prefer to fight with no helmet. If they like that better and are willing to risk smacking their head on the ice, so be it.

I'm sure some players prefer to not play with a helmet either. Should we allow that?

Considering how positive the Flames reacted a few years ago to Iginla taking his helmet off before fights and how pissed off we would get if the other fighter didn't reciprocate, I definitely am okay with this. It is a ridiculous thing to watch but then again it is a ridiculous rule. Hopefully the NHL has a focus group watching this to figure out if this is better or worse than the old fighting system because I imagine we are about to see a lot more of this.

Chance of bashing your head on the ice while falling- very low
Chance of breaking your hand on a visor or helmet- quite high

Or you could just do it NHL 14 style. Two power punches to the head and the helmet flys off!
