Think the drug speculation is completely misplaced.
What I think is the guy saw at the prospect camp that his career with the Flames was winding down and the writing was on the wall.
His salary was $67k and it was likely his last hockey related paycheck that he was most likely to collect in Alaska.
Question likely became does he spend another year unhappy while in the minors or does he get a jump start on the rest of his life away from hockey.

Ya, I would have to agree that maybe he realized that his days were probably over in the flames organization and most likely hockey.

I don't know about anyone else but I would have shown up and taken the cash as well as the opportunity to try to change my fate. Even if he did continue to get bumped down the depth charts I am sure most kids his age would find $67K a useful addition to their college fund or travel fund while they try to go find themselves.
I guess if Howse had that kind of drive/fight in him he wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.

For the sake of the discussion... any chance that the Flames paid Howse to move on? Maybe Feaster helped pack his bags (oops, how'd this stack of cash fall in here) and drove him to the airport to free up the contract spot?
Not that I would want to hear that the Flames are doing anything so devious or underhanded but it'd be nice to think that Howse is getting something for falling on his sword and moving on with his post-hockey life.

That's what this thread needs - a new angle of speculation!
The Flames are at 45 contracts. They are not in a tight position and are not going to be throwing cash at a kid under the table to get him to walk away. (ignoring the potential legal issues that would arise)
Sorry, but that is just ridiculous.

I wonder if he will try his luck with another organization (that is, if another one gives him a shot), tries to go to Europe, or signs with another AHL team (AHL only deal?).
Will be interesting to see what the Flames end up saying with regards to Howse (if anything) and if Howse continues to play hockey.
