I wonder how Canuck fans will try and defend their team when management continues to hold on to their post-apex players.

Wow, what a well thought out, and provoking question by the reporter......what would a person expect Kessler to say?

6'6" is pretty tall, at least to me. To some people it isn't that tall. So what's your point?

Yeah, this is pretty boilerplate stuff, but at the same time Kesler is just so dislikeable.

The Canucks will miss the playoffs this year. The problems with the team were masked this year by playing in a downright awful division. The new division features former Pacific division teams, who the Canucks typically struggle against.

They'll also sign declining Sedins to long contract extensions, which will ensure they're mediocrity for some time to come.

He might not want to hear it, but he doesn't have any Stanley cup rings to plug his ears with, so he has to.

I get that, but sometimes sports reporters should not ask such asinine questions. I'd rather they ask him what color his car is. Or what kind of pizza he likes.

Well... I guess that because they weren't much better than the Penguins they were therefore not elite. Makes sense. You dink. If you spout this crap in front of real hockey fans in real life they will laugh in your face. You've been warned.

Actually what you wrote makes little sense. That first sentence is a bit incoherent. I never mentioned the Penguins.

I've been warned? You're calling me names now? Grow up. Why do you care so much what I think? Pathetic.

I actually think the Canucks were an elite team for a couple of years. I am also a "real hockey fan". I would also not laugh in the face of anyone who says they weren't elite, because there elite status is very debatable. They are far from a slam dunk in the elite category when at there prime. Very good, no doubt, but elite, a very educated argument could be made on both sides.

I care because you're so wrong. It hurts to read and it makes us look like fanboy idiots having that posted on a flames message board.

The Flames management didn't want to hear it either Ryan. And look at where we are at now...

You'd have to keep wondering because we'll all be quiet.

because I said specifically last years team was? and not 'over the last 5 years?

They have had 100 points every season (on pace for last year) since 2008/09
2 presidents trophies
1 SCF appearance

I mean what is there to argue? I think if you asked most people to name the elite teams in the league over the last 5 years period the Canucks are getting named
The Canucks probably deserve to be in the category of elite regular season teams, but that completely misses the point.

The Canucks have come off two straight years that can only be described as huge disappointments, regardless of any regular season success. They were built to be, and touted to be, cup contenders but have been eliminated in the first round both years, winning a grand total of 1 of the 9 playoff games they played.

Instead of making a hard decision about their core players, they made a coaching change in hopes that a new, tough-as-nails coach could wring better results out of the old core.

Whether Canucks fans want to admit it, there are striking similarities to the Flames.

If I were a Canucks fan (perish the thought), I wouldn't waste my time arguing about how "elite" the team had been, but focus on the fact that the Mike Keenan the Flames got wasn't the Iron Mike they expected or needed. There was no more accountability under him, and the on-ice product was probably its most chaotic.

On the other hand, I have little doubt that the Tortorella that landed in Vancouver was the same hard-a**ed one that left New York.

Where I see the similarities is the Flames and Nucks were both 2 seasons removed from SCF appearances and 2 first round exits. The Flames made the finals, finished 3rd lost in 7 games in round 1, finished 8th lost in 6 games round 1 hired Keenan. The Canucks made the finals, finished 1st lost in 5 games round 1, finished 3rd and lost in a sweep and bring in Torts.

Sure the Nucks were a better team when the move was made but the Flames window appeared to be open longer at the time Kennan came on

Age at the time Flames
Iggy - 30
Kipper - 31
Phaneuf - 22
Regehr - 28
Langkow - 31
Tanguay - 27

Age of Canucks
Sedins - 33
Luongo - 34
Edler - 27
Hamhuis - 30
Kesler - 29

I would argue Vancouver made the move later and have a smaller window for success even though their core was stronger than the flames. Sure the Nucks have Burrows, Kassian, Booth but the Flames had Husslieus, Nystrom, and Lombardi. Garrison, Tanev and Bieksa? The Flames had Sarich Giordano and Aucoin. I think the teams situations were VERY comparable and similar
