Colorado floods may surpass what happened in Alberta

Some really nasty weather much like what happened in Alberta in June is hitting Colorado right now....and is expected to continue to rain for 3 more days.

More rain is forecast through Sunday for the region, on top of the 15 inches some parts of the state have already received. While meteorologists aren't sure which way the water will go, state officials warned that "very heavy rainfall" is likely again Friday.

Overnight, flood sirens sounded in Boulder County as Colorado emergency officials feared that debris-caked canyonsmight give way and send another wall of water crashing through the city of Boulder and neighboring communities.

"All residents are warned to go to higher ground immediately due to the potential for flash flooding along the creek," Boulder's Office of Emergency Management said.

It's never nice to see disaster on the news, but because of what we went through this summer, the heart really feels for those people in Colorado right now. The images are crazy, and eerily familiar.

There has been a lot of crazy natural disasters this summer. Besides the Calgary and CO flood, there have been 2 huge wildfires in California (Idyllwood, Yosemite Rim fire) ... I know CO is too far to have any affect, but I know the Yosemite Rim fire is so big its actually creating its own weather systems and patterns. Lots of people I know in all 4 natural disasters above too... really sad summer.

CO has had some wildfires this year as well. Just not to the extent of the Rim fires. I have a friend that's about 20 miles outside of Colorado Springs and she has been talking about a big drought, then wildfires all summer - and now the flooding. Been talking to her quite a bit since the flooding began there, as she followed the flood stories here, in June.

Another big weather event for sure. I had a friend who said it's unfathomable the rain and said there would have been over 10 ft of snow if it were winter.

They only have oil shale. This must be the good Lord's pre-emptive strike for letting shell experiment there.

Forgive my ignorance but could the water from this event eventually flow into the Hoover Dan, or is it downstream of that?

Without looking at a map my best guess would be either Mississippi or Rio Grande outflow. Colorado is east of the Hoover and I think a mountain range exist between them
