And this guy played CFL football??? geez
The Bombers made the right decision based on the score (25-13), how much time was left, and how their defense was playing. If you give up a safety, it's only a 10 point lead (TD and FG to tie). Obviously, keeping the 12 point lead meant the Riders needed two majors for the win. How Suitor couldn't grasp this on the telecast yesteday is mind-bottling.

A couple friends of mine in Winnipeg said it was pretty obnoxious over the weekend with Rider fans that were there by the thousands talking tremendous smack.
What a massive win for the folks in Winnipeg in the Banjo Bowl vs the Riders. Maybe the upset of the season in the CFL so far.

I think Foster has the talent to be a good player in this league but that wasn't happening in BC as he was surpassed on the depth chart by Gore, Iannuzz, and now Haidara. It gives him an opportunity to play rather than languishing on the reserve squad right now. I don't see Winnipeg protecting him in the expansion draft and I think he is a prime candidate to be in Ottawa next year. IMO his upside is huge.

It gives them a insurance policy behind Lulay and someone who knows Chapdelaine's offense and has had success with it, though I think he would be killed if he was put in there with that turnstile offensive line. I think BC misses Simon's leadership qualities and Pierce is a warrior who will make up for that in that regard. And finally I think Pierce is done after this year and it gives him the proper way to go out with class and respect as opposed to Winnipeg throwing him aside in a trash heap. I know it might look like Buono got fleeced as opposed to him fleecing other teams but he usually knows what he is doing.

EDIT: Those are some interesting comments I just read from Buono as he wasn't not thrilled at all with the effort of his team in Hamilton and warned trading for Pierce is only the start.

I guess Ed Hervey is too busy ranting to actually make improvements to his O-line...Nice pickup by the Bombers.

Oh Edmonton, don't ever change - Get ripped by your GM one week, into the starting lineup the next week. It should make Stamps fans appreciate the good work and stability Huf has brought to Calgary.

Default CFLPA takes issue with Hervey's comments about Rottier

Quote:
Ed Hervey's comments regarding Eskimos lineman Simeon Rottier last week has drawn the attention of the CFL Players' Association, who are asking the league to discpline Edmonton's general manager.

In a statement released on Monday, CFLPA President Mike Morreale deemed the Hervey's criticism of Rottier to be "both inappropriate, and contrary to the Collective Bargaining Agreement."

"The Collective Bargaining Agreement clearly prohibits Clubs and their employees from publicly criticizing the on field performance of any Player in the CFL," said Morreale. "The purpose of this provision is to ensure that all CFL Players, as well as all CFL personnel, are dealt with in a manner that is respectful and professional, and the CFLPA will not tolerate anything less in the treatment of one of its Players."

"Given how quick the league is to respond and punish CFL Players for remarks it deems inappropriate, it is troubling that the CFL has made no public announcement of any action that has been taken in this matter," Morreale continued.

"The CFLPA expects the league to announce what disciplinary action has been taken against Mr. Hervey to ensure that this behaviour is not repeated in Edmonton or with any other CFL Club."

Default Argos' days are numbered at the Rogers Centre

Quote:
The Toronto Argonauts will soon announce a five-year extension to continue playing at the Rogers Centre, but the real deadline the CFL team is working under is six months.

Argos CEO Chris Rudge said in an interview yesterday that he wants to pinpoint a new stadium for the Argos within the next half year so the football team will have a new permanent home.

Rudge acknowledges the club's time at the Rogers Centre is nearly over because the Blue Jays are converting the field from artificial turf to grass.
Exactly when the grass will be installed remains unknown, but it's been no secret the Jays — one of only two MLB teams still using turf — have wanted to make the change.

Rudge said he and Argos owner David Braley have been entertaining any and all possibilities, including a move to BMO Field if Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment expands and upgrades the facility.

The Argos contemplated moving to Varsity Stadium at the University of Toronto in the early 2000s, but the project didn't pan out. Varsity has since been demolished.
MLSE CEO Tim Leiweke discussed the possibility of the Argos moving to BMO Field last week on a conference call.

Rudge said the Argos only just got serious about searching for a new home within the last six months and the hunt is now in full swing despite the new lease set to be announced with Rogers.

Depending on where they move, the Argos' long relationship with the University of Toronto Mississauga, where they have trained for many years, could end.

http://www.leaderpost.com/news/crime...440/story.html

Quote:
REGINA -- Two Saskatchewan Roughriders players have been charged with aggravated assault in connection with an incident on Aug. 18 that sent a 20-year-old male to hospital with serious injuries.
Dwight Anderson, 32, and Taj Smith (listed as Tajiddin Muquadir Smith-Wilson in a Regina Police Service press release) 29, were arrested on Sept. 11 following an investigation by Regina Police Service.
Police were called to a nightclub in the 2000 block of Dewdney Avenue on Sunday, Aug. 18 at approximately 2:50 a.m. for a report of a group of people involved in, or gathered around, a fight.

Yikes, aggravated assault, I know innocent until proven guilty, but those are serious charges.

Everything points to self defense from what I have heard. Some drug dealer/gang banger hit unnamed player over the head with a beer bottle for talking to his girl and because he plays for the Riders. Some unnamed players apparently told the club that little piece of #### was going to kill unnamed player for talking to his girl as well that night, they did nothing about it.

Smith, Anderson, and many more unnamed Rider plays got into a huge brawl outside when they left the bar that night as about 25-30 gang bangers attacked them with bats, batons, beer bottles, and other weapons after the earlier incident that night. Lets just say the gang bangers picked a wrong group to mess with as they got their asses handed to them and were pissed about it. The gang banger who started this stuff apparently got ####ed up something bad that night.

Judge has ordered Smith/Anderson both to not enter bars and abstain from alcohol/drugs after their court appearance this morning.. Their next court appearance is scheduled for October 8th. Go read Tamon George's tweets about being a CFL player and what happens in nightclubs. Interesting prescriptive.

Taman just had a press conference now and didn't say much on the matter. He basically said no decision announced on Anderson and Smith playing Saturday night, not suspended either at this time, and players have decided not to frequent the bar where incident happened anymore.

The victim is an outstanding member of his community....

Quote:
On the same morning the two football players made their first court appearance, their alleged victim was in another courtroom, in the same building, making his own appearance on charges in an unrelated matter.

According to court files and information from police, the alleged victim was charged July 18 with possession and trafficking of cocaine. That case, in which eight people are charged, is still before the courts.
Comment from that CBC article.

Quote:
None of you know the actual story here, and there is much more than meets the eye, so before you go knocking on these guys get some facts first. It's known in the community that there is a gang in Regina that initiates its members by trying to put a roughrider in the hospital. This is true. It happened to Craig Butler last season. This is just a case of someone from this gang trying to gain initiation by attempting to put one or both of these two in the hospital. He obviously picked the wrong two players, and well this is what has happened. Anyway now you know. This story will come out eventually, and that is why the Riders will play them both

Just read somewhere that some unnamed player was taken to the hospital and needed attention. He then missed a week of practice which I find funny because nobody in the media picked it up. Its not the first time they missed something like that as Sisco missed like a month of practice and nobody picked that up either this summer. He then showed up one day like nothing ever happened.

Anyway there is so much more to this story that the only people that know the full truth of what happened were the ones who where at the club that night.

According to Regina police, a third Roughriders player has also been charged with aggravated assault in the same alleged incident that led to charges against Dwight Anderson and Taj Smith on Thursday.
