I think the mat helps tremendously with energy and fat burner, it really lets you dig your toes in on the engagement. When I started doing it on carpet I wasn't getting the same effect as the mat.
Plus the mat absorbs sweat better then the carpet.

I'm not going to bother with this workout again until my yoga mat arrives. My feet were slipping on the carpet too much. There is another tip for the people about to begin DDP Yoga. Get a mat! I got by for over three months by just doing the workouts in my living room on a carpeted floor. Energy!, Fat Burner, and Red Hot Core are fine without the mat. Diamond Cutter I can get by but noticed a couple of times where it would really help, as you go along and do more workouts it become more apparent that you need a mat. Almost everybody I asked recommended the Manduka Black Mat Pro, so I ordered it. It was $128 on amazon.ca but has a ridiculously long life cycle, people have had the same one for 10+ years and no replacement in site.

I really like stand up and mix tap for some different activities and standup for balance and helping to strengthen my knees and hip

I also tried Strength Builder for the first time last night and it was a little much for now. Broken Airplane on the right side I just couldn't do... First time I couldn't do something, it actually hurts my leg, so I might have to skip that one.
Is Diamond Cutter easier Buff?
I also have to invest in a mat, I've been using a bathmat haha, it works well, but it can get a bit hard on the wrists.

I'm sure its buried in this thread somewhere, but what would you guys say the main use of DDPYoga is? I'm contemplating getting it but I am curious what areas its focusing on? I'm more looking for the gain in flexibility and core/back strength compared to weight loss.

Don't skip it altogether, come back to it but make sure you own most of the exercises on disc 1 & 2 first. Diamond Cutter is tougher but in some ways it is easier. DC is 55 minutes long. You sweat, lots. Then you really begin to sweat even more. DC is awesome for your cardio, your HR will be through the roof most of the time. It also has some very challenging moments like doing 5 CT pushups and then 10 CT pushups and those come after doing a kajillion 3 CT pushups.
Below The Belt is also a good workout, it also has broken airplane, so I was used to broken airplane when I did strength builder. I couldn't wrap when leading with the left foot, but I could when leading with the right foot. Today my shoulders felt like they had a good workout last night, as did my hips. That is probably the first time I can say that. With DDP Yoga, even though I get an insanely good workout, my recovery has always been quick and until today I have never been sore the following day.
That may have something to do with being awake for 21 hours on Friday and then only getting 5 hours of sleep... and here I am staying up late again tonight! Trying to sabotage myself!

I would say the main use of DDP Yoga is to own your life. There is no one main focus. There are plenty of workouts so you can decide how you want to focus on your workouts. You will definitely gain flexibility no matter what workouts you do, and you can strengthen your core and back, especially if you do a lot of the Red Hot Core workout. RHC is the only DDP Yoga workout that my wife does (she can't give up her stationary bike) and just from RHC she is noticing some impressive improvements.
RHC is only 12 minutes long, nice and short. Short is very good for this one because you give your core a... hardcore workout. It was designed to be added to the end of any other workout, so 4/5 nights I'll do core after I've done another workout.

To me it combines core strength and weight loss, but I've seen a big change in flexibility.
Just to put it into personal perspective. My weight had ballooned over the last few years, a combination of terrible eating habits. Stress, lack of exercise. I was sitting at a 48 waist.
I started at the start of July, and just doing energy and fat burner, I can now fit into a 44 and there's some slack.
I dropped from nearly 280 down to 253.
Now a lot of that is simple changes. Going to multiple small meals instead of one meal at the end of the day. I made myself find time to eat.
Cutting out breads and pop and liquor, sweets. refined sugars. And going to really simple foods and meals. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Chicken and fish instead of red meats. rarely snacking after 7, I might have a handful of nuts.
I walk for an hour a day. I hope to stretch that to a jog.
I started doing energy fully modified. Doing it on one knee, I'm now doing movements in a pretty deep lunge. I had to do 3 CT pushups from a knees down position, now I can do 5 of them with 9 second holds in between.
I started fat burner and didn't have to start at modification on it with the exception of not getting super deep in the catcher.
One of the biggest problems I had was holding the broken table and pushing up on my shoulder, now its not a problem
I had real knee problems and could tell by the problems I had getting up from a kneeling position without grabbing a hand hold. Now I just simply get up.
Yeah I not super agile, the pounce up is a bit of a challenge.
I'm up now to doing 5 or 6 workouts a week. 4 fat burners, 2 energy, I'm going to start Core after next week.
I'm not trying to brag here. I'm a long way from where I want to be, I'd like to get down to about 220.
I try to make sure I'm super confident in the workout and I own the moves now, and I lock in on engage.
The benefits of changing your diet and getting your heart rate up for at least a half an hour a day is measurable.
Anyways take it for what it is. I know I'm never going to be in the shape I was in my mid 20's or even early 30's.
But if this story helps motivate or gets someone to stick to the program then I feel good about it. Just like a lot of people in this thread have motivated the crap out of me.
Anyways, that's it that's all and booga booga booga.

Last night I did DC and RHC. DC is getting "easier" all the time but it is still a good day to loose a tonne of sweat and my hr is the highest during this workout.

Started this weekend with the Diamond Dozen on Saturday, the 10 minute warm up on Sunday, and Energy and Red Hot Core today. Definitely a good work out and its amazing how much you sweat (like everyone else has said). I would say my wife is an intermediate and I'm between a beginner and intermediate for basic yoga. We aren't having to modify our positions too much, but we could both get better at they dynamic resistance and locking in portions of the exercises.
All in all, I'm very happy with our start and hope to do a sessions at least 3 to 4 times a week. I'm thinking I will try to lose 10 lbs by Christmas and then continue on from there.

Ok, so a friend of mine and also the posters in this thread have convinced me to try DDP yoga. As a person that has never tried yoga before which dvd should I buy?. I'm guessing just pack 1 for beginners. Anyone have any suggestions?

Pack one is a good starter point. I bought them all because it was cheaper to get them all at once, and that way when I progress to the harder stuff I don't have to wait for it to arrive.

I would buy the entire set if you can. I only bought the combo pack thinking I'll never get into the Extreme pack. Well, four months later and I'm already planning to be doing Extreme by end of January. I would have saved a lot of money by ordering all of them at the same time, as well as getting the heart rate monitor that they offer too.

losing motivation after having some shoulder and knee problems. Plus just can't find time to sneak in a workout with a little guy who just turned 1 month old

Don't you give up yet! Having people like you talk about your DDP yoga experiences helps to keep us other fellers motivated. I totally understand the time thing when you have such a young child, so maybe you just have to tone down the frequency, but make sure you are doing the workouts at least twice per week. Maybe you only have time to sneak in Energy. Maybe you and Mrs. return to the red took the little tyke to the pool, sneak in RHC afterwards. Sometimes even doing the little things helps to keep you going. You can do it, you'll find a way! Once rttr Jr. is a couple of months older you'll be back into the swing of things (and maybe only doing a couple of easier workouts will help rest your knee and shoulder). Keep it up, you've been doing good!

Sometimes you just have to find the time. Sometimes you just have to simplify things a bit.
I've had days where there's no way I'm doing it. Not so much my knees as and I get it my shoulders. Especially on the broken table stuff and the CT-pushups.
And really there's no pressure to do this everyday.
But I'll come home from work with a lot of frustration lately. I'll make a point of going into my workout room putting on my headphones and just do the breathing and some of the stretch work from that 10 minute workout.
then my mind will kick in and say Energy or fat burner is only about 20 minutes, I can make the time.
Don't give up on it. Maybe just cut back to every other day.
As far as the shoulder and knee. Maybe go back to the modifications and step up in the lunge or drop to a knee.
On the broken table just do the leg portion of it.

Thanks guys, came in looking for motivation and leaving satisfied.
My wife says I have a personality where I get really addicted to things for a few months and then just drop them...this is probably a case of that so just have to stick with it
I'll take the advice of knocking down the number of times per week i'm doing it (was at about 6). That should hopefully recharge the batteries!

Right now I'm at about 5 or 6 days per week. Once hockey starts I'll be down to 3 or 4 days per week, and I'm feeling a bit worried that it isn't enough. It is probably a good thing though, I don't want to get burned out either. Maybe I'll do it 7 days per week and twice on weekend days before my hockey starts, just to make sure...

I haven't really started DDPYoga but did do P90 and half of P90 Masters last year on route to a 30 pound weight loss (gained a bit back since then thanks to various non-P90 related injuries).
those types of programs are indeed grueling as I imagine DDPYoga will be at some point. Early on and then after a few months you will want to say "enough" and blow it off for the day. What took me awhile to realize was that on those days you just don't care you can't blow it off completely or it inevitably leads to not doing anything the next day and then the next day and before you know 2 weeks have gone by.
So go do something BUT don't feel bad about half-assing it sometimes. Or if you don't have 45 minute free, go do a quick 15 minutes. Something is better than nothing and it keeps you in the routine. And if you keep the routine you will at some point get the excitement back and start pushing yourself again.
