Coming home from Taiwan I was on the hello kitty plane. Very interesting for sure, but seemed a step above normal service.

I just saw that thing today at the Boeing factory tour. You can see a bit of the tail in to the far right. More interesting were the Dreamlifts parked at the Boeing facilities. Apparently just dropped off some 787 wings from Japan.

Spoiler for size.

Spoiler!

Boeing Statement on WestJet's Intent to Purchase 65 737 MAX Airplanes

SEATTLE, Aug. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) is delighted that WestJet has entered into a letter of intent to purchase 65 737 MAX airplanes, consisting of 40 737 MAX 8s and 25 737 MAX 7s. This pending order, valued at $6.3 billion at current list prices, is a key component of the Calgary-based carrier's strategy to optimize and modernize its fleet.

"Since the very beginning, the Boeing 737 helped play a role in WestJet's growth and success," said Brad McMullen, vice president of North America Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We are pleased to see the 737 MAX will continue the tradition of supporting WestJet's vision to be one of the most successful international airlines in world. The 737 MAX's efficiency, reliability and passenger amenities will be a successful combination with WestJet famous customer service."

Boeing looks forward to working with WestJet to finalize the order. When finalized, the agreement will be posted to the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website as a firm order.

No surprise about the WS 737 MAX order. Even less surprising that they went with more 800 series over the 700.

Hmm, do either of the MAX series have the range to make YYC-Hawaii with no restrictions?

Just doing some digging on both the -700 and -800 MAX series. Their estimated fully loaded ranges are:

700 3800nm
800 3620nm

That would allow both types to easily operate YYC-OGG and YYC-HNL (same for YEG). Allowing them to no longer need to charter an aircraft like the 757 as they have in previous years.

To me the most interesting thing about the WS order is that it includes substitution rights to the 737 MAX 9.

They look like claws or talons on the end of the wing or something. In the front view, anyway.

I was over in Istanbul and Chorlu, Turkey this past week doing some work on a couple of our Twin Otters. I figured you Plane Nuts would appreciate these snaps.

I know this is nothing really new, but for the first time, I saw an A380, in relatively close proximity, in person.

Spoiler!

Those are awesome. I'm going to try to make it in this week. In retirement my father has been really into aircraft and spotting and been wondering what kind of gifts to get him as he's impossible to shop for. He's been into the coin collecting but it would be nice to get something different.
