That's a good point, Dexter really hasn't killed anyone for his own need this season. I didn't even think about that; what a load of crap that is.

You just know at this point they're aiming for a happy ending. There hasn't been enough struggle internally or externally for Dexter at this point to think that it'll end badly. The one real struggle with Deb basically resolved itself half way through the season. I get they're trying to show his progression and change as a character to become someone who can live a normal life, but they're practically shoving that point down our throats. There is nothing dark about the show at this point, the last episode almost felt like a comedy. Like something out of a comedy crime flick like Mickey Blue Eyes. The only shred of hope for any kind of shock value to the finale is that I heard a rumor that Deb will get offed in the last couple episodes. No idea if it's credible, of course. We'll just have to wait and see.. I'm thinking the last obstacle will be the brain surgeon, and they'll all work together to take him down. Deb and Hannah will shake out their differences, they'll have to pull some escape stunt to get away from the cops, and they'll sail off happily to Argentina. At least if Zach had lived, it could have presented a potentially interesting plot, sort of the preservation of his legacy.. but I guess that's gone now too. We're basically only left with a crappy, cliche ending.
It's funny how Dexter used to be just behind Breaking Bad for my top shows. Now the contrast of quality between the two is astounding.

I became alarmed at this prospect as well. They should be looking at a "Scarface" style ending, not "Dex and Hanna Get Married!", which would be so lame it would actually reverse time and turn the whole series into utter crap.
Dexter should have been on the run this whole season, ending up in Alaska or, heck, Argentina. But that probably would have cost too much money, so it's the same few Miami locations and the same storyline, except weaker.

I believe in the Jays.

I still have some faith that the writers will come up with a decent ending. It's just hard to believe that they could have completely lost their brilliance of seasons past. They're running out of time though, and this season hasn't yet felt like a final season at all.

We should write our own endings. I favour Dex going out in a blaze of gunfire, Bonnie and Clyde-esque. Don't know how we'd get there in ~4 episodes, but creative writers can make it happen.
I have been looking forward to Dexter being arrested and being dragged through the station with all eyes on him.

Dexter has so sadly turned into something I just have to finish. Like being on Antibiotics, gawd!
I actually got the feeling watching episode 8 that Hall didn't like what he was being asked to "act", like maybe he wants this over with just as bad as we do?
4 more!

I just miss the ongoing threat of him getting caught. The last time there was any real suspense was when Laguerta was hunting him down. That always at least drove the show to interesting places. Now I think there's no chance we see him get taken away in handcuffs. It's all turned into protecting Hannah and facilitating her escape.. (yawn)
We need one episode like "Nebraska" before the end... that was the last truly amazing episode comparable to the first 4 seasons. Have him backslide to his primal side and do some crazy s### just once more. Cause as it is, it's turning into one of the most anti climactic endings ever.

Almost sad that Dexter's last few episodes are just totally in the shadow of Breaking Bad's final season. That said, the massive difference in quality is now even more apparent.
Was Dexter at its best ever as good as Breaking Bad? I'm not sure.

Maybe it gets better, but I'm halfway through season 2 of Breaking Bad and season 4 of Dexter is better than anything I've seen yet

Breaking bad get's better. Season's 3 & 4 are the best. Season 5 has been pretty meh so far as the show just hasn't been nearly as compelling now is no longer in the show.
Dexter has higher highs and lower lows than Breaking bad although Breaking Bas seasons 3 & 4 are very, very good. Problem is that the show is winding down like Dexter where it's just not as compelling when you kind of know what's coming.

I couldn't disagree with you more. I felt that episodes 1-10 in season 5 have been pretty awesome. Aside from what is shown in the flash forward, I have no idea what is coming, and trying to guess how they will get there makes it even more compelling.

What exactly is so compelling about Breaking Bad? Don't get me wrong it has it's moments, almost every scene with Jesse is gold (except now that they're giving him relationship stuff). But I find myself fast forwarding through so many scenes on Netflix and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. I don't care at all about Walter's wife, kid, klepto sister-in-law, his chemistry class, it's just all boring filler
And it's not like I hate slow-burn shows, I loved The Wire, Sopranos, and Battlestar Galactica. But all those shows had interesting characters that I enjoyed following. Aside from Walt, Jesse, and Hank I couldn't give a crap about anyone else in BB. I just don't understand the hype that this show gets

We will agree to disagree I guess. I'm personaly tired of Skyler's constant meltdowns and Jessie moping around feeling sorry for himself which has been essentially the base of episodes 1-10. It's good but like Dexter it pales to when it was at it's best.

It's a good show but it is overhyped by it's fannatics. I'm a fan but I don't consider myself a fannatic as I don't fawn over every little thing like what you see in the Breaking Bad thread and I see the faults although as with all shows I choose to ignore them mostly to keep entertained. You haven't seen it as its peak yet so you should keep watching as it gets a lot better in the middle before running out of steam a little at the end now.
