Top 5 NHL Expansion Cities (hint: #1 is not Seattle)
Article
The only part I disagree with is Houston. Texas already has 7 professional sports teams. Hockey is the least popular of the 7, and an eighth will only crowd the market.

Kansas City? I think hockey would be more feasible in Houston.
All that aside, I think Portland and Seattle should have a team. The amount of support for the Winterhawks is crazy. Whether that transfers to an NHL ream remains to be seen.

The most feasible market in terms of profits predicted has to be Toronto 2/Southern Ontario. MLSE complicates this, unless the league wants to make an issue (and pay).
Houston seems a good option, as it creates a rivalry and has a very large metro area to draw from.
Seattle is a fickle market, I would not want to be backing a team going there...

Toronto 2 and 3 should be on that list in terms of potential profitability. I still fail to understand how someone hasn't approached MLSE with some type of deal to make MLSE even more money from another team or two.
No one is getting in there without MLSE's blessing, and they'll only give their blessing if they're making more money, so bring em in.

Strange Edmonton didn't make the list. They've been waiting years for pro hockey to return.

This response sums up Kansas City's situation.

As a KC native, I would LOVE to see a team comeback and play within the Sprint Center. Sadly the Sprint Center’s management company, AEG, has stated numerous times that they are not interested in hosting an NBA or NHL team since the arena’s schedule is always booked for other events.
In addition to AEG’s stance on bringing a team to KC, the city government have said that they have no interest in working with the NHL (or NBA) to setup an expansion team in the areana.

No owner, no government backing, no arena backing means not team.
My favourite's for getting a team are Quebec City, Seattle, S. Ont. and Portland in that order.

KC has the facility. They are also a city that surprisingly to many has a lot of corporate money. AEG has said a lot of things, but it wasn't a complete bluff that the Penguins were looking at KC and why it forced the hands of the city of Pittsburgh.

Ah and I thought he was talking about just Houston having 7. However, you are correct that 7 teams in all of Texas isn't really that much. Texas has 26 million residents.

I figured Quebec would be first on the list. KC was kind of shocking.

That's like asking, "Do you have any idea how large Canada is?"
Realistically, Texas has 3 urban centers capable of supporting top level pro sports - Houston, Dallas and San Antonio.
Make no mistake, hockey will forever take a back seat to football, baseball and basketball in Texas.

Austin could support a team. They're the largest city in the USA without a sports team right now. Whether they'd go for hockey is another issue.
