Think it's time to add this to the 'Off Topic' area.
Whose with me?

I feel like I've asked this before and been denied... but travel seems to be clogging up the "main" OT board and I agree.

Do you have any idea how far I had to scroll to find the eyeball licking thread?

Two more new ones this morning.
Make entertainment it's own sub, put Food + Travel together, which makes a tonne more sense.

^That is a good suggestion. Food and Entertainment has a lot more entertainment as compared to food. Food and Travel will compliment each other better.

Okay, so it's settled. Food and Travel subforum, and entertainment subforum. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter, mods.

And just like clockwork, there's the dooshy comment within the first few replies. It's never a thought out statement; always a quick scan of RIGHT THIS SECOND, and therefore, the OP's suggestion is stupid, irrelevant, and never, ever an issue worth discussing.

I never notice the travel threads, hence why I was asking. I've never really understood the need for a bunch of sub forums. I figure if a topic is popular it'll stay on the main page.

As someone who enjoys the travel threads and uses them for planning trips, I'd much prefer to keep them in the main off-topic forum. The value in those threads is based entirely on the number of people who see them and contribute. For example, the New York travel thread which has been active recently has gotten good contributions from members who live there/have previously lived there. If it was in a separate sub-forum there is a good chance those posters would never see the thread.
If anything I'd like to see a stickied thread somewhere that has links to previous discussions of various cities/countries - the search functionality on this forum is not the greatest. I know New York City has been discussed a few times (I actually did search for it a few months ago) as have other topics like the best way to get to Vancouver/Seattle. Maybe if those threads were easier to find it would reduce the number of active travel threads.

I basically hate the use of OT subforums and have mentioned my hatred a couple of times. Unless you're an avid participant in XYZ forum, I'm never stepping foot into the subforum unless the thread is at the top on the main page.
Sad because there are probably a lot of good threads I'm missing, but its just too much damn work to monitor and go browse through all the OT subforums. Lazy, yes, but its true.

Thinking out loud, but how about once the discussion dies it gets moved to a theme based archive? All current discussions would stay front and center getting as many comments as possible and then when the comments stop and it falls below 30 in the topic lists (falls to the second long page view) it gets put in the archive for future reference and the odd update.

I am for it. The food threads didn't die moving them into the food sub-forum. Food/Travel and a separate entertainment makes sense to me.

What about a [TRAVEL] tag? Makes for easier searching, which would be about the only reason I'd care for a sub-forum.

If anybody would like to start this type of thing, please do so. Once the thread is crated PM me and I will sticky it. Then if there are travel threads the OP or any mod can modify the first post with the updated list.
