Default Data Storage - huge discount on Amazon.ca

I've been waiting for these to come on sale enough before buying one. I was just on Amazon.ca, and their 1, 2, and 3 TB storage devices are on for a huge huge discount.

I just picked up

http://www.amazon.ca/Seagate-Backup-...&keywords=3+tb

Regular price is nearly $300, for only $120. The 1 TB ones are on for $80 and the two TB ones around $100.

IIRC Costco had them for the same price as well. Picked one up a few months ago. Nice drive.

Conclusion: Amazon was way over-priced to begin with?

It's just how amazon works. They take the original MSRP and then show the discount from that. It was probably 150 for a long time before that with a 50% discount.

I'm more surprised when I don't see something discounted on Amazon as prices don't stay at original MSRP very long.

Sometimes shopbot will show a lower price for a store too, I don't know if it's just a delay or if its the store actually showing a lower price to the shopbot crawler to try and attract people.

Amazon sometimes has good prices too tho.

We are so lucky to have memory express here in Calgary. I bought a 3TB usb 3.0 Mybook from them 6 months ago for $110.

Sometimes shopbot is behind in their prices, showing last weeks sale price.

Yeah it sure pays to comparison shop, even if it's for a few dollars. I hate it when I buy something and later after my impulse is over I check and find I could have got it for cheaper. I do a lot of on line buying as there is limited choices in this small town. Recently I finally dipped into ebay for some satellite parts and it went okay although I prefer established places with brick and mortar stores.

Also, it is not the cheapest it has been on Amazon.ca itself.

Camelcamelcamel is a great website (for the various amazon country websites)

Neat! Canada Post used to have something similar for some sites but it seemed to go away.

Yeah, it is pretty sweet. If you like, you can also set up thresholds and they'll message you when it hits your sweetspot/cheapness level.
