MCHG by Jay-Z was a huge letdown. The sampling, edits, beats and rhymes are all forced and don't gather any traction. The album is lifeless and a disappointment. Blueprint 3 had some great stuff and before that American Gangster was stunning, if not one of his best works.
Also, it was funny the deal with Samsung and the App released the music DRM free and it was available on the net almost instantly. I am sure that it was great marketing to go platinum before the album was even released and it made Samsung kind of cool for 2 minutes, but it sure is annoying when artists get in the way of the customers from purchasing their music.
The two Minneapolis hip-hop songs Res posted (Greg Grease & Quasimoto) were nice. Never heard of this Earl Sweatshirt before, but judging by that song he sounds like trash IMO.
New Epidemic from earlier this year. Absolutely love these guys.

My bad, I was unclear. Only Greg Grease is from Minneapolis. Quasimoto is a Madlib personality, character whatever and he's from LA. He's ok in small doses but I couldn't take a whole album of that voice.
Edit: I miss the old movie soundtracks that always had some gems

Oh hell yeah, never heard that one before. Kind of forgot about Binary Star. Looks like they just released their first album in over a decade. I'm gonna have to check it out.
Probably my fav Binary Star song
Might aswell put Reality Check in here also as the song is just a beauty

Do yourself a favor and go out and get his S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M album. Excellent piece of work.
One of the best things going right now, I'd suggest you download everything of K.R.I.T's, 4 albums are out there for free. King Remembered in Time is a great mixtape. I believe it's chic to hate Yelawolf but they're both making a tape called Country Cousins and I'm really looking forward to that.

Youtube is such a great source for finding artists that I otherwise would have no idea existed. I can spend hours some days just going through peoples lists of really obscure hip-hop such as these guys from Germany in '95.
There is so much good stuff out there just waiting to be found.

If anyone doesn't mind sacrificing a few brain cells for lots of laughter, check out Ghostface Killah's blog (called Big Ghost Chronicles). It's freakin' hilarious.
In particular, check out his annual "10 Softest Nig.gas in the Game" articles. I'm crying I'm laughing so hard.
