If the list was compiled entirely by Asians, I'm sure my proximity to a T&T would rank quite high.

No, wrong.

For it to be an objective property it would have to be beneficial for all. However, in the case of lakes it is not as such. You may find the lake to be a wonderful place to enjoy a weekend, where as your neighbor could give 2-rats for it. Hence having a lake is a completely subjective value.

If its all about a lake, then move to Thunder Bay, as they have the best lake in the world.

In terms of my current locale, I'm amazed Royal Oak/Rocky Ridge didn't rate #1. Poor access, never ending industrial traffic due to construction and the Lafarge quarry, close proximity to a wellsite that will engulf the communities in a destructive fireball (if I understand the community circulars correctly), moments to the landfill, walking distance to the Remand Center and Calgary Correctional Centre...it's outrageous!

On their list, they have Southwood listed at #16, but on their map (http://cdn1.avenuecalgary.com/pdf/be...munity_map.pdf), Canyon Meadows is shown as #16.

I could see Canyon Meadows being a top 20 neighborhood, but not Southwood.

Did Sunnyside move up or down due to being able to canoe around the community?

It also should have received a "Bigtime Bump" two years ago due to my arrival, on account of me being a big deal and all.

Agreed. This is easily a top 10 neighbourhood in the city. I lived there from 2001-2006 and loved it. It's even better now with the LRT access.

I thought Sunnyside was top 10 last year ... maybe a different list. Way to go Bigtime, why don't you go back to where you came from!

Hehe, don't think we were top 10 last year either. Hillhurst always manages to be there though (and rightly so).

I would love to live in Hillhurst, but I'm not a zillionaire

Hell, I would love to buy a real home in Sunnyside, I need to find a lady with a super high paying job so we can be DINK's

My community rocketed up the list this year, didn't even see it listed last year. Everything around here is exactly the same, how about that.

They have Aspen Woods ranked #5 for Parks and Pathways, and there's no pathway system in Aspen Woods, just a few disjointed pieces of path here and there. Guess they must be counting the water retention ponds by Aspen Landing as parks?

I live in Canyon Meadows, other than access to Fish Creek park there's really nothing "great" here. I mean it's quite (which I like) and the access is pretty good. But it's pretty dry as far as shopping/restaurants go. There's basically 1 pub & 2 corner stores within walking distance, nothing else too exciting.

If it's better to have a lake in the community why isn't Coral Springs in the top 50? In fact there's only one community east of the river, MacKenzie Town...which is next to the dump. Where's the love for the NE boieee!

Dude, two liquor stores in a 5 minute walk. And one of them has a racist owner who wants to tell you how much he hates native people. Paradise.

And that retired Calgary police officer who must have been very well respected when he was with the force because he would have police on teenagers faster than they respond to murders when we were younger.

No joke, he literally had police show up within ten minutes once, after one verbal warning from his deck for bouncing a basketball after 10pm, even though that should be a bylaw issue.

And the time he saw us drinking in the alley, yelled that he saw what we were doing and had three cruisers, 6 cops and hawcs helicopter out there within 15 minutes.

I really want to know more about that guy. He must have been pretty high up. He could see anything he didn't like and make a call and have CPS go "Yes sir, right away sir, we'll apply any and all services you request to this situation.

True, but even just the proximity to Fish Creek is more than Southwood has.

Nothing against Southwood, but I can't think of a single thing that sets it apart from the other neighbourhoods in the area, let alone anything that would make it the 16th best neighbourhood in the city. Even just a direct comparison to Braeside, they're very similar neighbourhoods, right next to each other, and I'd give Braeside the edge just because it's closer to the Leisure Centre.
