I hate this new division format garbage. Ruins the playoff formatting and will make it boring.

Only 1 Minnesota game? But what will they show to insomniacs who don't respond to heavy drug therapy?

And Metropolitan could be the stupidest division name in pro sports. Seriously, this is the best Bettman and company could come up with? Why not honor some legends of the game? I for one would be all for the Howe, Orr, Richard and Hull divisions.

The excuse that they need to be geographic for idiot American fans to know where the teams are is foolhardy. Let's introduce some history of the game, and change the names every generation or so. In 10 years, rename them the Lemieux, Yzerman, Gretzky and Brodeur. Then 10 years after that Crosby, blah, blah, blah.

Lol that's even worse then what it already is.

No sport has divisions named after players.

The only dumb thing is the metropolitan division which is a pretty odd name. Seems like a division for men who wear capris and drink Smirnoff ice.

I can live with the "Metro" division. I think that's what they'll end up calling it anyways -- can't see people spewing out Met-ro-pol-i-tan every single time.

I'm sure they will shorten it to Metro, which wouldn't be bad

How exactly does it make the game more boring? Unless you mean it makes the races to make the playoffs more boring, but those are always exciting pretty much regardless of the format IMO

Agreed, it's too convuluted now...it's worst case...just brutal.

Either go divisional or conference playoffs, this is just a bunch of crap.

The NHL keeps doing embarrassing things, frankly...first, some games are worth 50% more points than other games... Now, this mess of a playoff scenario...I find it mildly frustrating.

I'm sure once the division are balanced in the future that they'll do divisional playoffs and have the winners in a final four.

I think you're onto something. The Eastern Conference has three layers now, with the whatchamapolitans in the middle. Scoop out that layer and you have the Neapolitan Division.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this but I thought the Flames and Oilers division should have been the Smythe Division, Hawks and Blues should have been the Norris, Pens and Flyers the Patrick Division and Habs and Bruins the Adams. I thought that was obvious myself but the current NHL doesn't care about the past anymore I guess.

By your definition I don't care about the past either.

So here's something to think about:

Will the teams that win the division in the playoffs or the regular season be proclaimed division champs now?

8:00 PM weekday games are hard on this old guy. If you see me power-napping between the second and third, wake me for puck drop.
