Interesting. I remember him being decent for the Oilers.

Brule would be a far more sensible reclamation project.
16 pts in 90 games in the KHL over the past two seasons

Well, he is a defenceman, no?
I think the Oilers would desire good defensive play out of him more than anything else.
Though, with that being said, I never remember him being a defensive stalwart.

39 pts in 08-09
Without some offensive production, it is hard to get excited about his defensive game (to say the least).

The Oilers had better hope that the reason for Grebeshkov's lackluster KHL stats was playing with crappy forwards. Those are some pretty bad numbers for a puck-moving defenceman who put up almost 40pts a couple years ago. He should be able to bounce back by being surrounded by better talent.
Decent deal if he bounces back.

He put up 39 points playing top line minutes with Souray (who had a very good offensive year), no?

To be completely honest, I would've signed Tom Gilbert - the other ex-Oiler instead of Grebeshkov...
To say the signing is bizarre is an understatement...

The Oilers make it easy to make fun of them.

This says a lot about their confidence in their defensive prospects.

Yes. I thought Klefbom was supposed to be the second coming of Bobby Orr.

And Musil is supposed to be the next Kronwall.

I guess the coilers really didn't like the fact that we had a better draft pick than they did last year and are doing everything they can to try to keep it close.

I'm not sure why this was done.
In his previous stint Grebeshkov had moments of brilliance and moments of "has this guy played before?" - more of the latter near the end. I'm not really sure what the thinking here was unless there's another move coming. The Oilers have some good D prospects but they need seasoning in the AHL, which I assume is why Tuebert and Plante were let go. Above that though (in no particular order):
Nick Schultz
Jeff Schultz
Ladislav Smid
Jeff Petry
Andrew Ference
Philip Larsen
Anton Belov
Corey Potter
Denis Grebeshkov
If MacT wanted another defenseman I'm not sure why he didn't sign Fistric, hometown boy who actually brings something the Oilers could use (toughness, grit).
Head scratcher, but at least it wasn't Tom Gilbert.

I seem to remember Grebeshkov being pretty good for them and not just offensively.
