may be a dumb question, but can it be assumed that none of the college prospects will be at the main NHL camp in the fall?

Flames had Sieloff and Wotherspoon paired up in Group B.
Hmmm...

Watched the afternoon group again - just some of my thoughts:

Most impressive skater to me was Corban Knight. Very smooth, low stride with good acceleration and balance. His stride reminded me of Mark Recchi actually. Dunno why he came to mind, but he did. Also was a devil in the little faceoff drill they did at the end, winning 5 cleanly in a row against one of the coaches (same coach dominated Monahan on the dot). Seems like a great pickup, and looks like an NHLer to me.

Ferland - stronger skater than I remember, vocal and a leader out there.

Culkin - one of the nicest skaters in the group, great acceleration and poise. Really impressed me with his lateral mobility. Maybe Brodie redux?

Hanowski - still needs to work on his skating. Ah well. He will be in the AHL this season.

And my last thought for today: Monahan and Jankowski are very different players. Monahan is already in control of his body. He is balanced and strong on his skates. He definitely does not have the hands or offensive ceiling of Jankowski, but he will reach his ceiling much easier because of the type of player he is.

There are far fewer question marks to Monahan's game, and he isn't a boom/bust prospect like Jankowski. Monahan will be an NHLer for certain.

They haven't been there in the past. I think they'd technically be allowed to attend if they were willing to skip their classes for a week, but I doubt that any of them will.

Edit: I'm seeing some conflicting information, but it sounds like the NCAA would not allow them to attend even if they wanted to. Either way, it's safe to say that they won't be there.

And their NCAA eligibility is contingent on not failing their classes, so it's fairly unlikely.

Flames Fanatic posted his comments for Group A. I think it'd be amazing if Gillies was at Berra's level already.

Sean monahan is the real deal. I met him at the end and he has big smile and seems to be genuinely happy to be here. He has some nice hands and got speed along with the other small intangibles.

Corban knight was another standout. Great hands and skating, and he doesn't give up. He won 8 out if 9 face offs at the end. He looks like a NHL player right now.

That gillies goalie looks good l.

Ryan howse is awful, completely dogging it at the end, horrible skater.

Ben hanowski needs work as well, skating is ok and speed is a issue as well.

Johnny is unbelievable. All around the most skilled player we have had in a long time. He will be a NHL player the weight and height should not be a issue.

Didn't notice anyone else was hoping klimchuck would standout but didn't notice him.

Sieloff reminds me a great deal of Gary Suter......off the charts smart , tough, talented and willing to back up his hits and just be totally ballz to the wall ....very excited to see the progression of this player going forward into the future.

Would anyone care to say if Gadreau reminds them of a Joey Mullen with Speed?

I'm guessing it's a team building event and all of the prospects are going together. Was reading about the Canucks development camp and they had a bunch of off-ice stuff (dragon boat racing, cooking/nutrition lesson, hiking up grouse, visiting the children's hospital, diving lessons).

I could be wrong, but I do believe to attend main camp you must sign at PTO which would cause them to lose their eligibility.

I thought they could attend camp under an ATO, but I could be off on that. Regardless, I found some sources that say the NCAA would not allow NCAA players to attend because they don't actively monitor training camps for NCAA violations like they do with the developmental camps. It's probably for the best that the college guys don't miss any more classes than they'll already have to miss during their college teams' seasons, but the NCAA rules are pretty ridiculous.

What I noticed over the last little while is how many prospects seem to have strong leadership traits. Sieloff, Ramage, Monahan, Gaudreau, Jankowski, Arnold, Baertschi, Kulak, Kanzig, and apparently now even Ferland as per some of the comments about him on the ice Guys who have been leaders and/or who show a lot of character and leadership.

I am guessing (and pure speculation on my part) that this is one of the reasons the Flames decided to pass on Shinkaruk. Flames have made it no secret about selecting guys with a lot of character and exemplifying what they think a 'Flame' should be (in addition to on-ice abilities).

Love the direction the Flames are headed now. Character is often what separates a Stanley Cup champion when contenders go head to head.

Means that when they were doing the brake pivot drill he could do a huge turn while braking. The sort of movement you'd expect in a spin-o-Rama.

Sorry if any of the notes are brief or don't make grammatical sense. I'm working off and iPad and trying to keep up.

Edit: spelling
