After three days of corporate parties, I am amazed how I see the same people continuously drinking all day every day. It's both impressive and frightening.

Steer Wrestling Incident

We are saddened to report that during today’s rodeo, a steer sustained a severe injury that was untreatable and as a result was humanely euthanized.
The steer failed to rise after his event and the cowboy competitor immediately called for assistance, and three veterinarians who were in the arena rushed to assess.
Upon assessment, the veterinarians determined the steer’s severe neck injury was untreatable, so they humanely euthanized the steer. A post-mortem will not be performed, as the veterinarians believe the injuries were self-evident and do not require further investigation.
The run appeared to be normal; however the Calgary Stampede and independent livestock specialists will be reviewing the event video to determine any contributing factors.
Recent rule changes by the Calgary Stampede include a “dog fall” rule, preventing a cowboy from continuing to wrestle a steer that has splayed its legs and cannot fall safety.
This does not appear to have been in the case in this situation.
This is a rare occurrence - over the past decade more than 1000 steers have competed in this event, with one other steer fatally injured.

What's the cover for Cowboys?

What are the chances of getting in at 6 - 7 on this Friday / Saturday?

30 bucks is the cover.

Almost 0 chance of getting in at that time unless you either have a chute pass or you up your cover to 100 bucks.....

My flight into Calgary arrives at 9pm tomorrow. I was told that the gates to Stampede don't close until midnight. Is the market open until midnight? I want to go to Banff for the weekend so tomorrow night will be my one and only chance to go.

(#1 on my shopping list is a cowboy shirt and stetson... I know I'll be paying an arm and a leg for something I could get cheaper elsewhere, but isn't that what tourists are SUPPOSED to do. )

You can get in to cowboys then, just understand that it'll take at least an hour if not more.

I snuck into the Cowboys tent last year. True story.

Was hoping to do that this year but I assume they learned from their mistake.

If anybody cares. Go try the Waffles and Chix food truck down at the stampede grounds if you haven't already before. It is pretty good, not sure how I'd compare it to the one in Vegas or other places since I haven't tried them yet but I can imagine how it would taste like.

Also, an added bonus for knowing the guy who owns the food truck not that it really matters much.

So a solid fata you to the stampede/ticketmaster for their handling of ticket holders for the cancelled shows at the dome.

Despite the initial announcement of "tickets will be honoured for gate entry" they decided at some point this week that if you had the audacity to ask for a refund on a cancelled show you're now refused entry with their tickets, and told to get in the general admission line where "we can offer you 1/2 price admission"

I even called guest relations and was told it was a "miscommunication" from ticketmaster and that stampede policy is to not honour tickets for cancelled shows. They'd also had "a lot of complaints about this tonight".

Fata that, I don't care what the policy is, or which of your affiliates said it, you don't unload that on the customers. And "get into that giant line" is not an acceptable response.

Anyone go to the Oxford Stomp? Kind of weird, it was sold out, 18 000 people, and not a single youtube video or review or mention of it anywhere.

I thought Counting Crows were too mellow a band to headline Oxford Stomp. Then again, I'm not sure either of the other bands could have made great headliners either. Still, great event.

I was going to say the exact same thing. It was a fun show, but pretty mellow.

Skipped the entire Stampede this year.

I didn't want to get tempted by all of the junk food.

Yeah, I thought this year's lineup was a nice, weak one featuring a bunch of opening bands at any other venue. Atleast last year, Big Wreck was awesome.

Didn't really matter anyways, I guess. I was drunk and belligerent in the Oxford tent, and it was tons of fun.

The Oxford tent is the reason to go to the Oxford Stomp. Had fun this year like last year ... never even paid attention to the bands
