Personally, I don't really want Kanzig at camp. As much as I like the pick, I feel like he is going to do something stupid to try get noticed. I can see him just crushing Monahan or something and putting him out for the year...
I'd rather see him smash other people, and I think that if he doesn't smash people at camp (because he was instructed not to)- flames fans will think he is a waste and a soft pick.

To be fair, Monahan isn't new to contact hockey and while these guys haven't played against each other yet, I'm sure there were a number of Kanzig size / style guys in the OHL that Monahan has dealt with throughout his career.
I also doubt that Kanzig is going to want to enter his first camp and hurt a future teammate either. Accidents happen but I really doubt he would try to do it on purpose.
Other than the obvious exciting prospects (Monahan, Sven, Gaudreau), I'm probably most excited about Wotherspoon. He's got all the hallmarks of a very good defensive defensemen. He's already NHL size too. The most telling thing is that he was one of the final players to make Team Canada and moved his way up the ranks to the point where he was one of the go-to defenders for Don Hay.
Reinhardt for me. Scouts have him projected as a second line centre, I wanna see if he's close yet. does anyone know when our new hockeysfuture.com rankings should be up?
Easily? How? I can understand you being excited about him but easily more than Baertschi and Monahan?
Have any of us even watched him play other than his brief highlights?
I think that's why, I've never seen him play, so there's nothing negative in my mind yet. All I've got is that highlight reel... And what a reel it was.
I reserve the right to change my vote once I actually see him play.

What I'm most excited about is what looks to be the early stages of our future core coming together. Monahan, if not the #1 center we've been looking for for so long would be an excellent #2 option. Jankowski, a wild card with all the tools who hopefully will have a solid camp among his peers, he should definitely have a very interesting season. Gaudreau looks like he could be a potential star player if his offense transfers. It's awesome to see that he's grown to 5'8 and gaining a bit of weight considering that's the main reason he fell, still small but that 2 inches may be huge in determining his success. Baerstchi needs no explanation. He's our mini-Hossa and I agree with what posters have been saying about his star potential.
After those electrifying offensive players, you add our three first rounders to an already solid supporting cast. My favorites out of these players are probably Wotherspoon, who I could see as a top-pairing D-man, Seiloff, Arnold, Reinhart. The depth of our pool is what I find most impressive. Very exciting. I also view a strong starter in net in Gillies, from what I've heard and seen he dominated his rookie season with excellent stats, and being a starter in the WJC next year will be a good test for him and would definitely be a great opportunity.
Add the possible top-5 pick in 2014 combined with a solid rest of the draft and I think we have a young, promising core to build around for 10+ years. Looking very promising for year 1 of the official rebuild, or that might be my flames rose-colored glasses fogging my vision.
The fact that there are 10 or 12 names being thrown around - any of which I could have chosen as my pick - is what really has me interested and excited.
There are guys with talent, like Baertschi, Monahan, Gaudreau, Jankowski, and Gillies.
There are guys that are intriguing (and we really don't know what we have with them) like Poirier, Sieloff, Granlund, and Klimchuk.
There are new guys that we can get a first look at like Knight, Agostino, Berra and Poirier.
There are guys who are just quietly and steadily developing like Wotherspoon, Reinhart, Ferland and Kulak.
It just goes on and on.
Very different times than 3 or 4 years ago. A couple more years of this, adding some more high-end skill (because not all prospects make it) and we will really be in good shape

Johnny Gaudreau. So far, he seems to be an impact player on winning teams, and has a knack for being his best at the most critical times.
Also, I want him to prove everybody who thinks he can't be a force in the NHL wrong. Some people don't think he is the team's top prospect. But based on he's done since being drafted, he should be one of the top prospects in the entire league.
I suppose there is a distinction between the player on the ice and the player on paper. The Gaudreau on the ice comes and brings it then wins, and the Gaudreau on paper is overlooked.
Definitely the most exciting Flames prospect in my opinion.
By far the best/most important prospect and a guy that could really help change the rebuild from a long period/mediocrity to possible contender if he is able to be the first line center that his upside has.

too many to name for me...how Hartley gets them prepared to be pros and how they ultimately end up playing as a team and not individuals is far more important to me.
Not all of them make it obviously so the players that end up in Abby are going to a good place to be groomed by Troy Ward.
The fact that there are so many for the first time since back when we had rookies like Neiwendyk, Roberts and Fleury all dominating for the most part of their careers but starting in Calgary is so awesome.
